SENATE DEMS STAND UP TO BUSH ON HIS PLAN FOR MEXICAN TRUCKS IN THE U.S.

>

3 of America's worst enemies out for a dangerous joyride in a dangerous truck

Sunday, we pointed out that the Bush Regime had slammed through a controversial plan to allow Mexican trucks into America willy-nilly and was trying to shove it down's peoples' throats by whining about NAFTA. The Senate Democrats-- with help from some Republicans who are afraid of being defeated next year-- finally slammed down the breaks on Bush. Yesterday The Senate overwhelmingly passed the Dorgan Amendment (Amendment 2797 to HR 3074, a transportation appropriations bill) which prohibits the establishment of Bush's program to allow Mexican truck drivers to operate beyond the commercial zones near the Mexican border.

Every single Democrat backed Dorgan, as did 25 Republicans. So who were the extreme rubber stamp slime who would rather back Bush than their own constituents? Well, first and foremost, of course, was Connecticut's shame, Joe Lieberman, whose ass is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bush Regime. The Republicans seeking re-election next year who tried to kill the amendment were:
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Pete "Sneaky Pete" Domenici (R-NM)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Ted Stevens (R-AK)
John Sununu (R-NH)

McCain was out dialing for dollars and not bothering to be a senator, although Hillary, Obama, Brownback, Dodd and Biden all managed to cast their votes for something the whole country was crying out for. Vitter opposed the amendment, probably in the hope that the trucks would be hauling fresh call girls up his way.

The 74 senators who voted yes on the Dorgan Amendment argue that the trucks are not yet proven safe. Lieberman and the Republican extremists argue that the U.S. is applying tougher standards to Mexican trucks than to Canadian trucks and failing to live up to its NAFTA obligations.

Now they think him and other AIAPAC types will lead us into war with Iran. Boy how things change....

Hey, Howie, I like that truck! I had one just like it for about seven years. Sold it to a Czech violin maker, who cherried it out, put a HUG engine in it, and took it on the local Alaska drag strip circuit.

A peaceful and prosperous 5768!
