GEORGE WILL IS REALLY PISSED OFF AT GEORGE BUSH OVER THE MIERS NOMINATION; JAMES DOBSON IS SMILING LIKE A CHESHIRE CAT

>

I'm not surprised that right-wingers are all up in arms over the Miers nomination, although I think it's much ado about nothing. She'll be a dependable right-wing corporatist ideologue who will cause nothing but grief for ordinary working Americans and the wrong-wingers will realize Bush wasn't as dumb as even they, after almost 5 years of no-can-do government, think he is. In fact, long-time GOP propagandist George Will came out today and practically said that George Bush is too stupid to be trusted with his job-- something most non-reactionaries have long known. In his WASHINGTON POST column today, Will delineates several reasons why Americans should not trust Bush.

Will writes that Bush "has neither the inclination nor the ability to make sophisticated judgments about competing approaches to construing the Constitution. Few presidents acquire such abilities in the course of their pre-presidential careers, and this president particularly is not disposed to such reflections." (Is he saying Bush is a 'tard? Now he tells us!!) "Furthermore," he continues, on a roll, "there is no reason to believe that Miers's nomination resulted from the president's careful consultation with people capable of such judgments. If 100 such people had been asked to list 100 individuals who have given evidence of the reflectiveness and excellence requisite in a justice, Miers's name probably would not have appeared in any of the 10,000 places on those lists. In addition, the president has forfeited his right to be trusted as a custodian of the Constitution. The forfeiture occurred March 27, 2002, when, in a private act betokening an uneasy conscience, he signed the McCain-Feingold law expanding government regulation of the timing, quantity and content of political speech. The day before the 2000 Iowa caucuses he was asked -- to ensure a considered response from him, he had been told in advance that he would be asked -- whether McCain-Feingold's core purposes are unconstitutional. He unhesitatingly said, 'I agree.' Asked if he thought presidents have a duty, pursuant to their oath to defend the Constitution, to make an independent judgment about the constitutionality of bills and to veto those he thinks unconstitutional, he briskly said, 'I do.'"

Further right on the political spectrum, crackpot right-wing political-preacher, James Dobson, has been telling those closest to him not to worry about Harriet Miers. With a wink-wink-nod-nod, Focus on the Family Fuehrer Dobson lets his allies know that Karl Rove (aka- "Bush's Brain") has assured him that Miers is committed to over-turning Roe v Wade, something neither Harry Reid nor George Bush really care all that much about about, but something Dobson and his lunatic followers are obsessed with. Lucky for Bush he found Harry Reid and other mainstream corporatists on both sides of the aisle to support his latest deprecation against the interests of ordinary Americans!

MIERS NOMINATION LOOKING FISHIER AND FISHIER BY THE DAY

Yesterday afternoon (Oct 6), Republican Party and Politico-Religionist Right conspirators held a conference call to convince conservative grassroots activists that Harriet Miers would be everything they wanted in a Supreme Court justice. Closeted GOP Chairman Ken Mehlman suggested it was important to get Miers on the bench because she was so familiar with the president’s anti-terrorism policies and would support them on the Supreme Court. Southern Baptist fuehrer Richard Land took Mehlman’s argument one step further, saying Miers was bound by a Texas sense of loyalty and would never rule against the president because that would be a personal betrayal. Jay Sekulow, who heads Pat Robertson’s "legal" arm, said he wants Miers’ vote in an upcoming Supreme Court case on restricting abortion rights.

Even if these statements haven’t completely mollified right-wing-nut land and their loony pundits who are unhappy with the unknown Miers, they sure raise questions about the Bush Regime’s commitment to the independence of the judiciary.

People For the American Way posted a summary of the conference call on their website shortly after the call was over, in the belief that senators and the American public have a right to know what the administration and its surrogates are telling people like James Dobson and Pat Robertson in order to win their support for Miers.
