THE ENTIRE CONGRESS STANDS UP TO BUSH AND TELLS HIM NO-- EVEN RUBBER STAMP REPUBLICANS
>
Yesterday Bush's insane plan to allow virtually unregulated Mexican trucks to start using U.S. highways was overwhelmingly defeated in a bipartisan landslide slap at the unpopular president not even the worst rubber stamps Republicans want to be associated with any longer. The bill, introduced by freshman Democrat Nancy Boyda (KS), specifies criteria for the program Bush demanded that he hysterically opposed, including setting up an independent panel to evaluate the test program and getting certification from the inspector general that safety and inspection requirements have been met. Even rubber stamp nitwits who have never differed with Bush on anything, like pathetic North Carolina congressman Robin Hayes who barely managed to be reelected last November, came out strong-- for a rubber stamp-- against Bush: "We do not need 90,000-pound unguided missiles on our highways."
The 3 congressmen who voted with Bush were Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Bush's pet Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Charlie Gonzales (D-TX).

Finally a moment of sanity from these people.
That would have been an unmitigated disaster.
