BUSH REGIME IS FALLING APART-- TIME TO CLEAN THE SEWERS

>

The #2 man in the Justice Department, Deputy Dog Paul McNulty, got tossed overboard today in a vain hope of stanching the flow that will inevitably lead to Karl Rove. More time with the family, etc. was what the resignation letter said but in an interview with reporters he explained by misdirection exactly why he was fired forced to resign.
McNulty, 49, said in an interview that the political tumult over the prosecutor dismissals-- including his role in providing inaccurate information to Congress-- did not play a part in his decision. He said he has not lined up a job but is considering his options.

... Nine U.S. attorneys were forced to resign last year, including seven on one day in December, as part of a two-year effort by senior White Hose and Justice Department officials to remove prosecutors based in part on their perceived disloyalty to Bush administration policies.

Rahm Emanuel knows exactly how a crook's mind works. So who better than he to ask all the right questions? "Another resignation won’t make the unanswered questions about the fired U.S. Attorneys disappear. We continue to wait for answers: Who developed the list of the US Attorneys to be fired? How did U.S. Attorneys end up on that list? What happened to the public corruption cases those U.S. Attorneys were investigating at the time of their departures? For months, Democrats have been seeking straight answers about the prosecutor purge. Democrats will continue our aggressive investigation into this serious matter. Resignations are no substitute for the truth."

The Chairs of each chamber's Justice Committee, John Conyers and Patrick Leahy, won't be distracted from their investigations of major wrong doing by Rove and Gonzales by McNulty's departure. According to Conyers, it's just "a sign that top level administration at the Justice Department may be crumbling under the pressure of ongoing revelations, and what is yet to be disclosed. With this news and as we press on with our investigation, we look forward to his cooperation."

Does it sound to you that Senator Leahy is going to be satisfied with this sop?
"The American people deserve a strong and independent Department of Justice with leaders who enforce the law without fear or favor. Regrettably that is not the Justice Department we have today.  Instead, we see a Department rife with scandal and another agency this Administration seeks to manipulate as a political arm of the White House. Our justice system should not be a political arm for this White House or any White House, whether occupied by a Republican or a Democrat.  This is not the first resignation from the Department of those involved in the United States Attorney scandal.

We need to restore the Department of Justice to a place deserving of its name and the way we do that is get to the truth about the role the White House played in the replacement of United States Attorneys for political purposes. The Committee has made requests for cooperation from the White House and I hope the information and cooperation requested will finally be forthcoming. If the White House has done nothing improper, then they have nothing to hide. The Administration should come clean so that we can begin the process of reconstituting the leadership of the Justice Department. Then all Americans can renew their faith in its role as our leading law enforcement agency. The obligations of the Justice Department are to the Constitution, the rule of law and to the American people, not to the White House.”

And despite Dick Cheney's toothless blustering today, the World Bank will not allow itself to be swept up in the sordidness of Bush Regime crooks and cronies and will give Wolfowitz another few days to "resign" or be summarily fired. Wolfowitz was sharply rebuked for his corruption, an investigating committee concluding that "he broke ethics rules and undermined the integrity of the institution in engineering a hefty pay raise for his girlfriend."
"These actions manifest a lack of understanding for and a disregard for the institution as a public international organization," declared the committee's report, which was distributed to the bank's executive directors yesterday and released publicly last night. It calls on the executive board to assess "whether Mr. Wolfowitz will be able to provide the leadership needed to ensure that the bank continues to operate to the fullest extent possible."

Not unlike congressional Republicans caught stealing and taking bribes-- such as DeLay, Doolittle, Renzi, etc-- Wolfowitz blamed the girlfriend. Bush, Cheney and their Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, are pressuring U.S. allies to keep Wolfowitz, regardless of the fact that virtually no one connected to the World Bank wants anything to do with him. And after Wolfowitz? Presumably Gonzales goes before Rove. But with this lot virtually anything can come scrawling out from under a rock at any time.

Now why would anyone want Wolfowitz out of his job? I mean they already knew he was a viciois, lying warmonger when they approved him, right? What could have made them change their minds? "An angry and bitter Paul Wolfowitz poured abuse and threatened retaliations on senior World Bank staff if his orders for pay rises and promotions for his partner were revealed, according to new details published last night."
