DEMOCRATIC PARTY DRAMA QUEENS MAKE A BIG FUSS ABOUT THEIR SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING HEROICS
>
Much ado about nothing much at all? The Democratic Leadership's tepid response to Bush's demands for another $100 billion plus to continue his catastrophic and destructive occupation of Iraq, considered a vicious war of aggression by the entire Arab world-- outside of Bush's business partners and puppets-- will in all likelihood pass Thursday. But the leadership wants to make their efforts appear somehow heroic. Hoyer looks worried and says he isn't counting the needed the needed 218 votes. Oooooo! Emanuel tells loyalists to keep a stiff upper lip; he'll save the day! Our hero!
Meanwhile they managed to convince an Out of Iraq Caucus stalwart, Janice Schakowsky-- with an unblemished anti-war voting record-- and a war-mongering Blue Dog asshole, John Tanner (D-TN) to support the bill. (Of the 44 Iraq War related votes between October 10, 2002 and May 25, 2005, Tanner has voted with the Republicans 16 times. Schakowsky only once-- and that was to oppose some cockamamie bill the Democrats and Republicans were all supporting in 2003. She rocks; he sucks.)
Tanner said he will try to convince other reactionary
Bush says he'll veto the bill if it passes-- cutting off funds to the troops! And a handful of liberals who actually want to stop the war now, led by Maxine Waters and John Lewis, are also opposing the legislation. "As a nation, can we hear the words of Gandhi, so simple, so true-- that it's either non-violence or non-existence? Can we hear the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. that we must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish as fools?" Lewis asked. "Tonight I must make it plain and clear, that as a human being, as a citizen of the world, as a citizen of America, as a member of Congress, and as an individual committed to a world at peace with itself, I will not and cannot vote for another dollar or another dime to support this war."
MoveOn.org and MyDD have decided to support the bill. Talk Left and Democrats.com are standing with anti-war progressives against the bill.
"A House Democrat close to the leadership said there are now a dozen Democrats squarely against the bill-- about half of them liberals and half of them conservatives-- with another eight opponents seen as persuadable. If Republicans stay united, Democrats can afford to lose only 15 members. A few Republicans are undecided and could side with the Democrats, but they are not likely to announce their support ahead of the vote."
It's all utter pointless bullshit and posturing. Instead read the letter the "proud father of a fallen soldier," Captain Kevin Landeck, sent to Bush that was published in the Chicago Tribune today. (Needless to say, stupid, cowardly and pathetic Asshole-in-Chief hasn't acknowledged the letter the father of a dead soldier sent him a month and a half ago.)
“This war is wrong,” says the last paragraph of Landeck’s letter to the president. “Because of your ineptness... I have lost my son, my pride and joy, my hero! (You) will never understand what the families of soldiers are going through and don’t try to tell me you do. My wife, my daughter and I cannot believe we have lost our only son and brother to a ridiculous political war.”
Any congressman, regardess of party, who votes to perpetuate this war deserves the same exact fate as Bush and Cheney. And that includes the serpentine and treacherous Steny Hoyers, Rahm Emanuels and Howard Bermans, as well as the out-and-out yahoos like Jim Marshall and Gene Taylor.
UPDATES: WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH...
Pelosi gets tougher. Speaker Pelosi "is holding the implied threat of lost committee seats over the heads of Democratic Caucus members who may vote against her $124 billion Iraq war supplemental bill." Looks like she's coming down hardest on progressives like Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters, rather than the swinish Blue Dogs. Many progressives and grassroots anti-war advocates-- the real ones, not the fakers-- feel that House leaders, especially corporate stooges like Hoyer and Emanuel, "have tried to isolate them as a power in the caucus. Some have complained that Democratic leaders accommodated the wishes of conservative Democrats in the legislation, but neglected liberals. In particular, House leaders removed a provision requiring President Bush to seek congressional approval if he attacked Iran. Blue Dog Democrats wanted the provision stripped from the bill."

this letter is making the rounds on the blogs. It needs to be hammered home on the mainstream news and hoping it also gets to at least one winger who beats his chest and loves his flag stickered to the back window of his pickup with his magnet say Support the Troops.
Nothing is going to change until we have more than a 2 party system
many thanks for this post... i'm disappointed but not incredibly surprised that the house dem leadership seems to have caved and is actively pushing for funding the war/occupation for another 18 months. what has surprised me is that there is not more push-back w/in the blogosphere. extremely disappointing.
