Which Members Of Congress Will Lead The Impeachment Investigation?

>

Next stop Moscow?

This morning's little incident with Roger Stone has to serve as a warning that all of this year is going to be a rocky ride in Congress, the media and in our lives. Early this morning, in Florida, there came a knocking on Roger's door. Apparently Bob Mueller took quite literally, Get Me Roger Stone. Thursday, Stone had been indicted by a grand jury on charges brought by Mueller, alleging that "the longtime Donald Trump associate sought stolen emails from WikiLeaks that could damage Trump's opponents while in coordination with senior Trump campaign officials," referring to, at minimum, Steve Bannon. This is likely to eventually all go back to one of the masterminds-- as well as the Daddy Warbucks-- behind Trump's election, neo-fascist billionaire Robert Mercer. And the indictment wasn't just about working with Assange on disseminating the stolen DNC emails, but also lying to Congress to cover it up and witness tampering (radio alk show host Randy Credico). The sordid episode in our country's history reads like a Mafia screenplay.

As far as I can tell so far, Pelosi didn't put any real fire-breathers onto the House Judiciary Committee, the way the GOP did. [The Republicans added just one semi-sane person-- Tom McClintock-- and 4 absolute crackpots, Ben Cline (VA), Kelly Armstrong (ND), Guy Reschenthaler (PA) and Greg Steube (FL) to defend Trump and his criminal regime.] The 9 new Democrats added to the committee are conservative patsy Lou Correa (Blue Dog-CA), Mary Scanlon (PA), Sylvia Garcia (TX), Joe Neguse (CO), Lucy McBath (GA), Greg Stanton (New Dem-AZ), Madeleine Dean (PA), Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (New Dem-FL), and Veronica Escobar (New Dem-TX). Pelosi should have put Rashida Tlaib on it.

Luckily, Ted Lieu (D-CA), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) are all on the committee and all up to the task of making sure Trump is held accountable for his criminal activities. My guess is that Eric Swalwell (D-CA), David Cicilline (D-RI), Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Karen Bass (D-CA) will also turn out to be stars in the impeachment process-- once Pelosi gives Nadler the OK to get the damned show on the road and stop using the ridiculous excuse they're waiting for Bob Mueller.

Mueller works for the Executive Branch-- and is accountable to Trump-- and has no role in impeachment. Impeachment lies strictly with the House and the only thing that is keeping Pelosi from moving forward are her own political calculations. That's pretty outrageous.

These are the two dozen Democrats who will serve on the committee for the 116th Congress:
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-10), Chair
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (CA-19)
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18)
Rep. Steve Cohen (TN-9)
Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-4)
Rep. Ted Deutch (FL-22)
Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37)
Rep. Cedric Richmond (LA-2)
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8)
Rep. David Cicilline (RI-1)
Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15)
Rep. Ted Lieu (CA-33)
Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-8)
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-7)
Rep. Val Demings (FL-10)
Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46)
Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5), Vice Chair
Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29)
Rep. Joe Neguse (CO-2)
Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-6)
Rep. Greg Stanton (AZ-9)
Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-4)
Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26)
Rep. Veronica Escobar (TX-16)
As Alan Grayson, one of the most successful lawyers to have served in Congress in decades, explained recently, "Trump has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, and he is unfit for office. You can’t un-ring those bells. This is why we have impeachment in the Constitution."

Ted Lieu served as an Air Force prosector and he feels the time is right to start the formal investigation now: "It is time, he tweeted last week, "for the House Judiciary Committee to start holding hearings to establish a record of whether @POTUS committed high crimes."

The way this will probably happen is that relevant subcommittee chairs-- guessing again-- Steve Cohen (Constitution subcommittee) and Karen Bass (Crime subcommittee) will begin holding hearings even before the full House votes to establish a separate committee on impeachment within the Judiciary Committee. I can't wait to see that one get going-- and see who winds up on it.

Yes let's get impeachment going already - the process will take much time anyway so let's get cracking asap. Every day Trump is in office is a crime against the USA. Revealed recently, the 30 odd people who got Top Secret security clearances against the recommendations of officials is a huge threat to national security, much greater than the lack of a stupid wall. Trump keeps it all focused on security issues on the border - Dems should be SCREAMING about the real security issues. Kushner has been and continues to be a huge threat. Trump, of course, is the hugest of them all, a puppet to Putin. Hello.

A real crisis is likely in waiting and watch out then. The incompetent crew manage anything? Or else Trump will start a huge crisis as another distraction. A bomb? Invading Venezuela? Why the hell not?

What makes you think that Democrats haven't been doing that, and that the mainstream media has ignored them in favor of focusing on the latest adolescent nonsense that Trump is carrying on with?

"A real crisis is likely in waiting and watch out then. The incompetent crew manage anything? Or else Trump will start a huge crisis as another distraction. A bomb? Invading Venezuela? Why the hell not?"

The crisis is already here, and it started on January 20, 2017. Fortunately we can, and will be able to counter it thanks to the midterms of 2018 where the House was taken back. And let's be brutally honest--the shutdown IS the crisis that Trump started as a distraction in order to take away our attention from the fact that he's going to be pretty much fucked in regards to Mueller and the various investigations that the House will carry out that will show to the world what many of us hard-headed realists figured out while everyone else was jerking themselves off to nonsense about Hillary's emails: that Donald Trump is a traitor, a Russian asset, and that he and his gang and a good chunk of the GOP stole the election in 2016 and that the GOP has been covering for this in any way they can.

End of lecture.

I refuse to get excited about the obvious necessity for impeachment.

First, Pelosi has to allow it.

Second, assuming it goes through to a committee vote, it then has to pass the House.

So far, these are doable.

Third, McTurtle has to accept the findings in the House and make the Senate available to conduct the trial. This is not a sure thing.

Lastly, there have to be enough Republicans who also see the need for impeachment and actually vote to convict.

The Republicans are only about the Rule of Big Money and care nothing for doing anything about the crimes committed by Big Money. The law is only for the little guy.

To sum up, I don't see it happening.

The reason that Pelosi/Nadler will quash it is also because they are all about rule by the big money and care nothing at all about crimes, governance, laws and the constitution.

that list of democrap members need not have been listed. the only democraps who matter are Pelosi and Nadler. Pelosi will order her lapdog Nadler, who owes his chair to her and owes his next election to her money, to quash it.

and if you doubt this, remember that she ordered conyers to quash articles against cheney and gonzalez in 2007-2008.

and she's made the same cleansing vow (impeachment is off the table) in 2006 and 2018.
and she's compiled a decades-long record of refusing to do anything controversial/bold and also doing whatever her donors demand.

democraps are not "screaming". they're standing by, mostly idly, and doing nothing... so as to allow trump to continue to dig a deeper hole.
the democraps don't really want to FIX anything. The more FIXED stuff gets before 2020, the smaller the perceived gap between the Nazi evil and the democrap lesser evil will be.

the democraps want the perceived gap to be the greatest it can be. That way, no matter how much they betray and ratfuck voters, they'll still be seen as the lesser evil, and hopefully win bigger numbers and the white house in 2020.

Clearly most do not remember the 2007 Pelosi house doing jack shit about cheney/bush; allowing the 2008 crash to become worse; continuing to fund all of cheney's wars, DHS, renewing patriot, empowering the NSA and totally destroying the 4th amendment... all of this and more... just to win massive majorities and the WH in 2008.
note: the timely vaporization of Lehman is why they got 60 in the senate and obamanation in the wh. absent that, there would have been 57 in the senate, a smaller house majority and president mcpalin.

note also: the democraps refused to do even jack shit with those numbers... leading to 10 million voters staying home in 2010.
