BLUE AMERICA ENDORSEES DO THEIR OWN EDORSEMENTS-- AND THE FAR RIGHT IS STILL WAGING JIHAD AGAINST McCAIN

>

Steve Cohen (D-TN), the latest Blue America candidate to endorse Obama

Hillary Clinton has 90 Democratic members of Congress who have endorsed her and Obama has 63 64, the latest being Representative Steve Cohen of Memphis, who came out for Obama last night. Like me, Steve is an admirer of both Hillary and Obama and like me, he feels Obama will "demand higher ethical standards" and is more likely to actually bring the troops home from Iraq. The ethical standards question comes into focus when you see what kind of slime populates the Clinton campaign-- the Mark Penns, Howard Wolfsons, Terry MacAuliffes-- and wonder if this is the low calibre of people she will appoint to important government positions.

Aside from Congressman Cohen, the other candidates who have been supported by Blue America and have now endorsed Obama are Carol Shea-Porter (NH), Patrick Murphy (PA) and Paul Hodes (NH). Four New Yorkers have gone along with virtually the whole New York delegation and endorsed Hillary, their homestate senator: Jerrold Nadler, John Hall, Kristen Gillibrand and Mike Arcuri. They are joined by Joe Sestak (PA), paying back Bill Clinton for campaigning for him in 2006, and Hilda Solis (CA).

The only Blue America endorsed candidate we have formally unendorsed-- and demanded our money back from-- is reactionary Pennsylvania Democrat Chris Carney. He has publicly come out against Clinton, but instead of endorsing Obama has told the media that he would like to see Republicans Mike Bloomberg or Chuck Hagel as president.

Meanwhile, Democrats Abroad (in Japan) have completed voting and the results are pretty clear:

83% Obama
13% Clinton
2% Edwards
1% Kucinich
1% Richardson

[UPDATE: Pretty similar among Americans living in Indonesia; Obama landslide.]

On the Republican side, McCain, a career pol, has spent virtually his entire adult life Inside the Beltway and members of Congress know him much better than Romney, who has never been a member of Congress. Knowing McCain well doesn't translate well and Romney has more members of Congress endorsing him (48) than McCain (45). Most of the fake moderates who have endorsed, have gone for McCain, despite his pledge to keep the war in Iraq going for 100 years. The Republicans whose extremist ideology flirts with outright fascism-- like Tom Tancredo (CO), Lynn Westmoreland (GA), Virginia Foxx (NC), Marsha Blackburn (TN), and Jim DeMint (SC)-- have endorsed Willard, mostly because of their antipathy towards and distrust for McCain.

Today's Washington Post has a story on how the far right spokespersons for the GOP have continued their slash and burn tactics against McCain. Despite a plea from the last tired old Republican man whose turn it once was to lay off the current tired old Republican man whose turn it is, Rush Limbaugh has made it clear to his all-Republican, zombie-like listenership that McCain is unfit to be president. Like Ann Coulter, Limbaugh would rather see a Democrat in the White House than McCain.
Rush Limbaugh has been relentless in his criticism of John McCain, prompting suggestions that he may have to soften his stance if the Arizona senator wins the nomination and faces off against Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. But if that happens, Limbaugh said in an interview over the weekend, he would rather see the Democrats win the White House.

"If I believe the country will suffer with either Hillary, Obama or McCain, I would just as soon the Democrats take the hit... rather than a Republican causing the debacle," he said. "And I would prefer not to have conservative Republicans in the Congress paralyzed by having to support, out of party loyalty, a Republican president who is not conservative."

When it comes to the McCain mutiny, Limbaugh has plenty of company on the right side of the dial. Laura Ingraham endorsed Mitt Romney last week, saying, "There is no way in hell I could pull the lever for John McCain." Sean Hannity, who also endorsed the former Massachusetts governor, regularly rips McCain. Hugh Hewitt is urging the audience for his syndicated radio show to fight for Romney against what he calls a media-generated "McCain resurrection."

UPDATE: ROCK AROUND BARACK TONIGHT

Music has always inspired people in ways that no one can quantify. But the "Yes We Can" video, first posted here on Saturday, has already had over a million views on YouTube, shockingly quantifiable.

Seattle musicians have created some more cool music to inspire Obama fans to go to the polls and change America today. Rock icons Stone Gossard, Matt Cameron, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, Barrett Jones and Boom Gasper did an uplifting song based on "Rock Around the Clock" called "Rock Around Barack," which you can listen to here. And speaking about uplifting...

When the pollsters first missed the mark in Iowa, the social media research company I work for decided to see if the blogosphere was as wrong as the traditional media. Using a more primitive version of our current methodology, we were pleasantly surprised to see that a measurement of blog sentiment and activity would have correctly (if narrowly) predicted an Obama win. Our theory as to why this is: people so engaged in the political process that they publicly blog about their favorite candidates could fairly represent those who are engaged enough to vote in the primaries and caucuses at all. We followed 5 states for Super Tuesday and made overall and specific predictions, which can be found here, if you’re interested:
