Quote of the day: Fans all over cheer because, thank goodness, the World Cup is over and done with for another four years. (It is over, isn't it?)

>

"I did insult him, it's true. But I categorically did not call him a terrorist. I'm not cultured, and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is."
—Italian footballer Marco Materazzi, in the Gazzetta dello Sport, regarding what he said, or didn't say, to Zinedine Zidane to provoke the French captain to head-butt him and get thrown out of the World Cup final

So what did Marco say? Our sources give conflicting accounts, but agree that it was one of the following:

(a) "Eh, your maman wears sweat socks."

(b) "You're such a great big giant jerkoff, I'll bet I can get you to do something stupid enough to get you thrown out of the game."

(c) "Ola, you big Algerian galoot, can you figure out why anyone pays attention to this stupid game, this stupid soccer?"
