Quote of the day: Bye-bye, Bugman! The sun rises on a DeLay-free Congress. Hmm, that's "Duke" and the Bugman down, how many Republicrooks to go?
>
So, we don't have Tom DeLay to kick around anymore. That is, assuming there are enough state and federal prosecutors on the job. Is it too much to ask that they make sure the exterminator-turned-supervermin dies in prison? That just leaves us the humongous job of dismantling his hateful legacy—notably the very real apparatus for ideological extremism and partisan corruption he put in place.
I imagined that the Bugman might have some personal words of parting, but it looks like we'll have to go back to his ta-ta speech to the House on Thursday, a vintage-DeLay blend of thuggishness, assaultive imbecility and scumbaggery. Certainly there's no better symbol of his amazingly successful campaign to destroy American democracy than the K Street Project, his grand scheme to turn the federal government into an adjunct of the Republican lobbying industry. Take a bow, Tom:
"I did a good job. I helped build the largest political coalition in the last 50 years. The K Street project and the K Street strategy I am very proud of."
And by way of a QOTD "amen," we have this from chip-off-the-old-chump Rep. John Boehner, the Republicrook who succeeded the Bugman as House majority leader:
"He's been a real leader."
That he has, Johnny, that he has. Let's hope that you and all the other disciples will soon be following the leader into the slammer.
