[4/29/2011] Sunday Classics preview: "Rip, rip, rip the Chipmunks off the field" (continued)
>
Standing on the corner: Ryan French, Eric Bartlett, Brian Link, and Brian Ohnsorg in a 2007 VocalEssence (Minneapolis) production
"SHALL WE DO IT ONE MORE TIME?"
Why not? Or even twice more, once with the same personnel -- different performance, though -- then with some fresh personnel on the field.
"Grand Old Ivy"
Rudy Vallee and Robert Morse, vocals; Nelson Riddle, cond.
Ronn Carroll and Matthew Broderick, vocals; Ted Sperling, cond.

"A Bushel and a Peck"
Just to be clear, this song is itself a performance, sung on the job by a character -- a perennial audience favorite -- whom we'll hear lamenting her real-life plight ever so poignantly on Sunday.
Vivian Blaine and ensemble, vocals; Irving Actman, cond.
Julia McKenzie and ensemble, vocals; Tony Britten, cond.

"Standing on the Corner Watching All the Girls Go By"
Once upon a time, you couldn't turn on a radio or TV without hearing this song. The "leader" (for want of a better word) of this quartet of social retards is a character I'm especially fond of, and we're going to be hearing more from him too on Sunday.
Shorty Long et al. and Robert Weede, opening dialogue; Shorty Long, with Alan Gilbert, John Henson, and Roy Lazarus, vocals; Herbert Greene, cond.
Don Stephenson et al. and Louis Quilico, opening dialogue; Don Stephenson, with Michael Gruber, Guy Stroman, and George Dvorsky, vocals; National Symphony Orchestra, John Owen Edwards, cond.
IN TOMORROW NIGHT'S PREVIEW . . .
As promised, three more songs from the same shows, whose titles will also identify the sources of tonight's songs.
[And of course Sunday's post features music from all three shows.]
