TONIGHT'S WINNERS: BARACK OBAMA IN MISSISSIPPI AND ANDRE CARSON IN INDIANAPOLIS

>

Indiana gets a new Democratic Rep- Andre Carson beats Elrod

Obama beat Hillary in Mississippi, as expected, 60% to 37% (although votes are still being tabulated). So far it looks like he'll take 17 delegates to her 11. I was more interested in the congressional special election in Indiana, where Republicans were desperate to turn around their spate of miserable performances. After Julia Carson passed away, Democrats nominated her grandson, Andre Carson, to run for the seat. The Republicans came up with Jon Elrod. With 78% of the vote counted it is safe to say we have another newly elected Democratic House member.

ANDRE D. CARSON (DEM) . . . . . . . 40,396 (53.85%)
JON ELROD (REP) . . . . . . . . . . . 32,424 (43.23%)
SEAN SHEPARD (LIB) . . . . . . . . . . .2,148 ( 2.86%)

We'll see if Andre turns out to be as good a representative as his grandmother was. His campaign website has an issues page and the first item is Iraq:
I oppose to the War in Iraq, and believe it is time to bring our troops home safely. I support an immediate change to a responsible redeployment plan that will end the war in Iraq and bring our brave men and women home with honor. It is time for the Iraqis to take responsibility for their security, with benchmarks for Iraqi military and political success along with a responsible timeline to bring our troops home.

Its funny how some of the media stresses that Andre Carson is a Muslim and they don't stress that some of the members of Congress and the legislation are not Christian also. So where is the fairness and openmindedness that this country is founded on. It is the diversity of ideas and concepts that has made this country the leader that it is. signed a Christian Believer

They didn't mention that Carson has ties to the Nation of Islam either.
