THERE'S MORE POLITICAL INSANITY IN LOUISIANA THAN JUST VITTER'S REFUSAL TO RESIGN

>

It's been all down hill after him

Most of the political news out of Louisiana these days has been about new revelations of a life consumed with whoredom by Louisiana's junior Senator, David Diapers Vitter. New revelations point to huge amounts of money being spent over the years-- and, unlike Spitzer, Vitter isn't independently wealthy-- and the possibility that it wasn't just dirty diapers being laundered. Even conservatives are starting to demand Vitter resign.

When it comes to the upcoming elections, the feeling is that the special election to fill Bobby Jindal's seat is a lock for wingnutia and that the Baton Rouge-based 6th CD is a toss-up. However, this morning's Congressional Quarterly points out that with the retirement of GOP closet queen Jim McCrery, the northwest Louisiana Shreveport-based 4th CD is up for grabs-- in a meaningful way. In fact, the Republicans haven't managed to attract a credible candidate-- despite it being a very conservative district-- and the Democrats are fielding Paul Carmouche, who has been elected District Attorney of Caddo Parish (Shreveport) over and over since 1979.

Bush carried the 4th with 59% of the vote over Kerry but in October Jindal barely won a majority there in the governor's race. The bad news is that Carmouche is an anti-choice conservative who will tend to vote with the Republicans much of the time anyway. So don't waste your money or energy.
