IL-14-- IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER

>

It looks like there will definitely be a recount in the super-close race for the Democratic primary for the general election in the northern Illinois district abandoned by Denny Hastert. 355 votes separate grassroots progressive John Laesch and Blue Dog multimillionaire Bill Foster out of 75,000 votes cast-- less than one vote per precinct. A significant number of provisional and absentee ballots remain uncounted. This race is way too close to call. Watch John's press conference:

Go, John! I really hope this turns his way.

YES, Go John GO!
BUT if it goes the other way then John faces another tough decision whether to back the Blue Dog slimmer suit than Oberweis or go it on his OWN.

I believe the right campaign COULD win as an Independent in IL14. Hastert is largely scorned for his shameful legacy and desertion of his elected term and he ENDORSED Oberweis; plus Denny just went down on the good ship Willard and John McCain won't be calling the new lobbyist or his two lobbying sons. IL 14 particularly hated the million dollar hate brochure papering from the Republican side and I think are surprised Oberwise won.
On the Democratic side the farmers and suburbanites watched Foster outspend John Laesch 30-1. I honestly believe IL14 could go for an Independent Change candidate VET with name recognition like John Laesch but he would have to run independent. As an Independent for 20 years, I relish knowing that I am not EITHER of those two other parties but the decision for a candidate must be kind of like dropping trou the first time you hit a nude beach. A little awkward and unusally vulnerable.

Good luck John!

There is no FUCKING way that anyone could win as an independent in this district. If John comes up short after everything is counted, then he should concede graciously and support the Democrat. That is the ONLY way that they will have a shot at picking up IL-14.

Yes Anonymous, I bet John will, but I wish he wouldn't.
I don't think Foster can beat Oberweis.
I think John Laesch can beat Oberweis, I don't think Laesch could have beat Lauzen.

Sidebets later if it happens? Howie can hold, he's with the band man, he knows everyone.

Fact: John Laesch running as an independent is insane - it will just hand the election to Oberweis.

Fact: John Laesch is too much of a socialist to pick up votes from centrist voters. Bill Foster looks more attractive to those people.

Foster can beat Oberweis as long as progressive Dems turn out to vote for him. Foster and Laesch don't sing from the same hymnsheet, but when the final numbers are in and Laesch has lost by a couple of hundred votes, he and his supporters will have a straight choice - support Foster or get Oberweis.

I hate socialists. They piss me off.

Well "Sam said" I think you are just plain wrong. You can try and name call all you want but that doesn't change the fact that Foster is a milk toast candidate that doesn't have a chance to beat Oberweis. I am a progressive Democrat who is not going to vote for Foster. If he ends up being the candidate in the general I will turn my attention elsewhere. I will not vote for a candidate who wants to institute a National ID Card(internal passport). Foster has flip-flop on an important issue already. First, he says he is a Blue Dog Dem and then that he's a progressive. He can't be both. HR 1955(dubbed the "Thought Controll" bill) was sponsored by a Blue Dog and all but three of them voted for it. I am not going to vote to facilitate the destruction of the Constitution just to vote for a Democrat whether it's Foster or Clinton. The Democratic leadership is controlled by corporations-thats their constituency not the people. And I'll take a Socialist over a Fascist anytime.

Thank you anonymous, well said.
ANY Republican in IL14 can beat a milk toast Democratic candidate.

But I think you have something different now, REALLY pissed off Republicans in IL14 who I think are surprised that Oberweis beat Lauzen and resent Oberweis as much as they did watching Hastert get rich and fat, then thin, on their dimes.
Progressive Democrats aren't going to vote for Foster and it's just a primary but didn't Laesch get MORE votes than Oberweis!?

I think this one isn't right or left, it's NORTH and John Laesch could be there. Take a LOOK at him, fresh face, Vet, change baby NOW.
If not now, WHEN?

“Split Illinois results could muddle Dems’ plans to take Hastert seat” The Hill - 2/11/08

The headline from the Hill spells out the reason I will never vote for Laesch and is the reason I didn’t vote for Laesch in the first place. He has grandiose plans for himself and grandiosity is a symptom of mania. Laesch is out for himself and himself only. Good ridance to Laesch - the Democratic Party will be better off without him or his supporters throwing mud around about other candidates.

Well, we'll see about that because I think Laesch probably is in love MORE with uniting behind a Democratic candidate than in love with himself.

Although I hope he gets over the former and keeps the latter.

Hey 4:37, is this one of the spoiled brats(sometimes refered to as the loser's coalition) from Kendall County? John hasn't lost yet and if he does lose we all lose in the 14th. John is a level headed guy with his ego in check. He just knows how to run a good campaign. Anyone who really knows anything about politics knows that what John has done with $120,000 against Foster with $2,000,000 is remarkable. It couldn't have been done unless people all over the 14th district worked there hearts out working for him. They wouldn't have done that if what you have said is so. It is you how can't rise above your egos,it is you who live in a dark and narrow place between your ears.

Q: WHEN WILL JEN GET HER BIRTHDAY PRESENT?

A: WHEN ALL THE VOTES ARE COUNTED TWICE!

We need a recount! I am hearing that they ran out of ballots in DeKalb county I am a Laesch supporter and I won't ever vote for the non-democrat bush-dog Foster! I think we forget that when Laesch was carrying the flag for progressives in 2006 Foster skipped town to help a candidate in Pennsylvania if he cared about us here he would have stayed home and helped those of us who dont have the money to fly out to PA. Obi will never get my vote but me and my whole family will stay home on the 8th out of protest.
