JOE LIEBERMAN HEARTS SAM FOX AND SAYS HE'S WHAT AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT

>

Sam Fox... Sam Fox... Sam Fox... it sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place the name. I had an e-mail from a friend saying that Jim Webb would oppose his nomination to something or other. I asked Jane, who had just gotten off a plane. Sounded familiar to her too but right now she's still got the names of all the Libby trial characters foremost in her mind. Wikipedia has a Samantha Fox but then I remembered (with a little help from The Googles) how he was one of the captains of the SS Swift Boat. Yep, he donated $50,000 to run trashy and deceitful ads before the 2004 election to smear John Kerry's war record. The perfect Republican hero; why not nominate him for a nice position in the Bush Regime, you're thinking? They're one step ahead of you.

Bush has nominated the sleazy and repulsive Fox to be Ambassador to Belgium. Although he has since testified that Kerry was indeed a hero, there are quite a few senators who don't think we should be sending low life liars and trashy operators like Fox to represent our government abroad. Predictably, Joe Lieberman isn't one of those senators. Today's Hartford Courant reports that the Bush Regime's favorite ex-Democrat just loves Sam Fox.

"Sam Fox represents what America is all about and that's why he will be, when confirmed, an extraordinary ambassador." And that, ladies and gentlemen is indeed what Joe Lieberman is all about. Lieberman's last senate campaign, against Democrat Ned Lamont, was supported almost exclusively by far right Republicans. Fox and his wife-- who give lots of dough to Republican extremists all the time-- kicked in $21,000. Lieberman dragged his ass over to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to lobby its members for Fox's confirmation.

Matt Browner Hamlin has the full story of this disgraceful episode over at My Left Nutmeg-- including a video (if you can stand watching the rotten scumbag).

UPDATE: CHRIS DODD IS A MENSCH. ANYONE ELSE?

So far one senator-- and one senator only-- has had the class to tell Bush and his Lieberwhore "no" on Fox. Not surprisingly, that's Chris Dodd. Here's what he said:
I strongly oppose the nomination of Sam Fox to be U.S. Ambassador to Belgium. U.S. Ambassadors need to be both responsible and credible, and Mr. Fox's support for an organization known to have spread falsehoods illustrates neither. Moreover, the fact that Mr. Fox refused to apologize for his behavior during his nomination hearing reinforces my belief that he would not be an acceptable representative for the position of U.S. Ambassador.

I hope this never even gets out of committee. If this passes, it will be a crime. I hope someone locks Holy Joe in a closet until this vote is over.
