OH TEXAS, TEXAS, TEXAS... WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH YOU?
>
I doubt this will surprise anyone who has watched the likes of George Bush, Tom DeLay, Joe Barton, Ted Poe, Jeb Hensnarling, Mike McCaul, Randy Neugebauer, Lamar Smith or any of the other loons who run the Texas GOP, but... Texas Republicans don't care if old people and children die of the flu this winter as long as voter turnout is suppressed. Huh? Today's Houston Chronicle explains how Houston's mayor, Bill White, came up with a great idea to boost voter participation and protect the city from a flu epidemic this winter.
"Mayor Bill White ordered a halt Wednesday to the city health department's privately funded drive to offer flu vaccinations at early voting sites in predominantly Hispanic and black neighborhoods, amid conservative criticism that the effort would boost Democratic turnout. About 1,300 flu shots were given to people age 50 or older in the past three days under the program, which didn't require the recipients to vote. Health officials said they were only trying to reach people in medically underserved communities."
Republicans screamed their heads off until the program was shut down.

What has happened to my state is a crime. We've always done things a litle differently in Texas and we certainly have had our share of awful deeds. How the Native American population was treated here in the late 1800 early 1900 period is a crime against Humanity but during my life, at least, it seemed that we truly live up to our motto "The Friendship State". We were truly descent people here. I wasn't taught don't talk to strangers. I was taught that you had better answer if an adult speaks to you and you had better be polite. I wasn't taught to hate blacks or hispanics or asians or anyone else for that matter. Those people were part of the community and always had been. We were different here.
Thats all changed now. We've had a lot of what I call "damn foreigners" move to the state. Folks from all around the country have moved here over the last thirty years and they brought their bad habits with them. No, things have changed here.
I've even considered leaving the state. Can you believe that? Me, leave Texas. This must be Bizzarro world.
Of course there's going to be a massive flu-vaccination effort to reach those people AFTER the election, right?
No? Gee, that's surprising.
