LET'S FACE IT-- SEKULA-HULA-BANANA IS THE IDEAL PERSON TO REPLACE DELAY; SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM
SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM'>SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM'>SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM'>SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM'>>SHE'S JUST LIKE HIM'>
Rozius dropped by with another update from Texas' 22nd CD, DeLay's old seat. It's a tight one and the two sides will fight this out until the bitter end, no doubt in court.
Democrats Raise GOP Ire By Sending Mailouts for Marginal Texas 22nd District Write-In Candidate--Plus, Shelly seems to think she is about Texas Election law just like her old buddy Tom Delay!
by Rozius
The National Democratic Party has the Texas GOP howling over a mailout sent to Texas' 22nd Congressional District voters which the Republicans claim is a backhanded attempt at splitting the already confusing GOP write-in vote in Tom Delay's old congressional district.
The $50,000 mailout was sent on behalf of the other GOP write-in candidate in the race, retired Air Force Major Don Richardson.
Among the statements in the flier, which would seem to appeal to Texas conservatives, is the question "Don Richardson supports President Bush's Patriot Act. Do you?"
It also assures the Lone Star's reactionary Republican voters that Richardson would support putting troops on the Mexican border to stem illegal immigration, would allow law enforcement officials to wiretap suspects, to read their mail and e-mail and to conduct random searches, all without a warrant.
Richardson says he has not seen the ad but agrees that those are his positions.
He also says that he doesn't think the flier will have much effect on the unspellable Sekula-Gibbs' vote count.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent more on that single mailout than Richardson has spent on his entire campaign.
The DCCC has also spent $25,000 sending out mail attacking Sekula-Gibbs as a Bush clone.
The Republican Congressional Committee has poured another $640,000 into the last week of the race in a desperate attempt to stave off the embarrassing loss of Tom Delay's old stomping grounds.
Meanwhile, it appears that Sekula-Gibbs and her supporters are as unconcerned about breaking Texas laws as was her mentor and chief role model, Tom Delay, before he cut and ran one step ahead of a prison term for political money laundering. In Sekula-Gibbs' case she seems to think that she can campaign inside the polling places set up for early voting in clear violation of Texas election law. [She claims she went inside them because she had to take a dump.]
Democratic poll watchers have cited two instances of Sekula-Gibbs has walking around inside the polling area introducing herself to voters. Texas law says that it is illegal to campaign within 100 ft. of a polling area.
Those same Democratic poll watchers have also reported multiple instances of poll workers saying things like "May I help you write in Shelley Sekula-Gibbs' name?" as well as documenting multiple unsolicited offers to instruct the voter on how to write in a candidate's name at several different polling locations.
Lampson campaign officials have talked to officials in the Texas Secretary of State’s Office about the matter, after which, Texas Secretary of State Perez sent a memo to election judges about proper behavior.
Lampson campaign officials and state Democrats have asked the Secretary of State’s Office to provide inspectors at polling locations. The secretary of state, a Republican, has declined to do his job during early voting, claiming he doesn't have the budget or manpower to enforce Texas election laws. Democrats are hopeful such inspectors will be present on election day.
The Texas Democratic Party filed a complaint and a packet of evidence with Fort Bend County law enforcement officials.
District Attorney John Healey said a complaint with supporting affidavits has been filed with his office, involving the First Colony and Missouri City incidents and "alleged voting irregularities on two occasions on the part of Ms. Sekula-Gibbs."
"We are in the process of conducting an investigation on the matter" and have been or will interview witnesses who signed affidavits, as well as other witnesses, Healey said.
Sekula-Gibbs, in true Texas GOP fashion, claims that the Democratic poll watchers, and not the law breaking GOP election officials, are the ones at fault.
Sekula-Gibbs said her campaign had been made aware that Lampson poll watchers were "basically trying to interfere with people’s right to vote," adding, "We’ve had to go to the secretary of state and ask for intervention."
UPDATE: GOP TRICKS IN DELAY'S OLD DISTRICT? YOU EXPECTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT?
How, exactly, are Republicans trying to steal the election in TX-22?
