TIME TO THROW DUNCAN HUNTER OUT

>

Mac Duncan, of San Diego, writes the best blog covering Duncan Hunter, the as yet unindicted crook who worked closely with Duke Cunningham and Jerry Lewis to get very rich by taking bribes from defense contractors, 52ndWatch.org/ Like so many real democrats outside of DC, Mac believes that America's greatness lies in her potential to do better. That's why he is so committed to making sure that California's 52nd chooses Rinaldi. I asked him to write up a report on the race for DWT because I'm ashamed that I have neglected this crucial race for months and months. Here's his report:

Last spring I was sitting in a coffee shop with a friend of mine, an elementary school teacher. We were discussing politics, as usual, when I volunteered this observation: "Duncan Hunter is a terrible Representative; he might as well just work for the arms industry."

My friend looked at me with the same expression I imagine he has on his face when one of his young students tells him "You know, the cafeteria food is not nearly as good as what Mom makes at home."

"Duncan Hunter is a terrible Congressman," he said, "and he does just work for the arms industry.”

Truth is, most people who know the facts see that Hunter is a poor Representative. They also know John Rinaldi will be a good one.

Duncan Hunter sent our troops to war with poor equipment. If people like John Rinaldi were in charge, organizations like Operation Helmet, that were founded to make up for Hunter's shortcomings, would not need to exist. Our troops would already have the best equipment.

Rinaldi knows that all the military objectives in Iraq have been met, and it is time for an exit strategy. Make no mistake folks; if people like Hunter had been allowed to have their way, this country would still have combat troops under fire in Viet Nam.

Rinaldi knows that the Bush Regime's torture policies are eroding our reputation around the world, threatening our position in moral leadership. Not Hunter... who recently told Wolf Blitzer, "Democrats of good faith feel that it's necessary to keep our leadership in terms of a moral nation. I simply think it's not practical."

Rinaldi knows that only an idiot would start a war and give billions of dollars away in tax breaks for the wealthiest people at the same time. Hunter thinks the deficit does not matter.

Rinaldi knows that fiscal responsibility does not include wasting billions of dollars in Iraq. Hunter wants our grandkids to pick up the tab.

All the issues in the campaign can be boiled down to one of responsibility. Hunter won’t take responsibility. Perhaps the right-wing authoritarian personality disorder he suffers from will not allow him to turn off his nationalistic pride long enough to see that our country is headed downhill. On the other hand, maybe Hunter is just a cranky "Archie Bunker" jackass who denies the obvious and blames anyone and everyone for our country's problems in order to save his own skin. The 52nd District, the State of California and the United States will not move towards solving our problems as long as men like Duncan Hunter are in Congress.

We must elect John Rinaldi.

Take a look at the animated cartoon Mac has on 52ndWatch. It's one of the best net ads I've seen all year, a riot of course.
