Quote of the day: Out of the mouths of babes is one thing, but doesn't everything out of the mouth of our Chimpy turn out to be wrong?

>

"Bush has publicly and privately banished any talk of losing the GOP majorities [in Congress], in part to squelch any loss of nerve among his legions. Come January, he said last week, 'We'll have a Republican speaker and a Republican leader of the Senate.'"
--Michael Abramowitz, in "White House Upbeat About GOP Prospects," in today's Washington Post

"Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections," writes Abramowitz, "there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove."

The deck of Abramowitz' story, however, is:

Self-Assurance of Bush, Rove and Others Is Not Shared by Many in the Party

And Abramowitz does follow up our QOTD, above, with the following:

The question is whether this is a case of justified confidence--based on Bush's and Rove's electoral record and knowledge of the money, technology and other assets at their command--or of self-delusion. Even many Republicans suspect the latter. Three GOP strategists with close ties to the White House flatly predicted the loss of the House, though they would not do so on the record for fear of offending senior Bush aides.

George and Karl, sitting up a tree . . .

There's an upcoming HBO documentary about voting machine irregularities and programming 'glitches'. I saw the ad for it last night after watching 'Real Time with Bill Maher'. It airs November 2nd.

"...in part to squelch any loss of nerve among his legions."

Sounds like something that the Master Vampire of Hellmouth would say in Buffy's Sunnydale.

There once was a guy in Germany in the 30's and 40's who became delusional and refused to accept that things were going wrong.
All of his men around him tumbled as they jumped over the cliff with him.

I can hear it now.

"No one could have possibly anticipated a democratic win in the election"

Maybe they have inside knowledge about rigged elections. An electronic coup d'état.
