Yes, it's another DWT quiz! Having trouble keeping track of this famous "democracy" we're fighting for in Iraq? Cheer up! Turns out you aren't alone
>
Thanks to the president's inspiring speeches, we understand that the future of civilization, in fact the very future of the American way of life, depends on us staying in Iraq and . . . uh . . . until we . . . er . . . that is, we . . . okay, we haven't got this part down exactly, but we know it's really, really important. And we know it's got something to do with the precious democratic government of Iraq.
Now Al Kamen reports in his Washington Post "In the Loop" column:
Worth a Thousand Words
Despite Bush's fine speech, it's unclear whether the State Department is fully on board. A colleague reports that, as of last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's photo has yet to replace that of former prime minister Ibrahim al-Jafari in the Bush Diplomatic Hall of Glory photo array at the department.
It's been nearly five months since Maliki took over, but still no photo. Are they thinking he's a short-timer and trying to save on framing costs?
Now, unless Google is playing tricks on us, or we've screwed up somewhere along the line (no, trust us, it happens--oh, you knew that?), we can tell you that:
• one of the Iraqi gents pictured here is the former prime minister, Ibrahim al-Jafari,
• and one is our current partner in democracy, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
The question, obviously, is: Can you tell which is which?
(Hint: As memory serves, we weren't really crazy about al-Jafari, and in fact the biggest single reason he's no longer the prime minister is that we made it abundantly clear to the democratic government of Iraq that he had to go. Go he did.)
THE ANSWER (Hey, no cheating!)
Okay, you know us too well. The guy up top, the one America's Chimp is playing smiley-face with, is the guy we sent packing, Ibrahim al-Jafari. Meaning that the guy down below is PM-for-now Nouri al-Maliki.
And if we've somehow got it wrong, ask yourself: How exactly does that change my life?
Well, for Pete's sake, now you sound like a quitter, a whining America-hater who doesn't have the guts to stay the course. Oh wait, it's not "staying the course" anymore, is it? It's . . . uh . . . well, something else. Something really important.
