PETER CASE HAS A GOOD IDEA AND A GREAT SONG: LET'S TURN THIS THING AROUND

>

when the next election comes & goes
before it's stolen by a nose
Americas been growing strange
we the people want a change
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

Democracy is our ideal
without the truth its all unreal
Jesus Christ said it plain
you can't serve God on a golden chain
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

Our countrys split that what were told
Our constitutions bought & sold
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

turn off the tv hear the news
without the lies & violent spews
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

who are the heros? who, the thieves?
who tells lies & who believes?
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

we the people hear the voice
the time has come to make the choice
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

when the next election comes & goes
before it's stolen by a nose
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND
LETS TURN THIS THING AROUND

If you've been to one of Peter Case's concerts recently, you probably heard a line or two from this song. But until Wednesday it hadn't been a song, just a line here and a line there that he threw out at his live shows. Peter slapped it into a song and recorded it-- in demo form-- on Wednesday. The next day, knowing Peter is an active blogger himself, I happened to ask him how he felt about the whole net neutrality issue. Predictably, Peter, like all the musicians I've talked to about this, is very much in favor of net neutrality. But what came out of the conversation that got me most excited was an offer to listen to his new demo. I loved it. And, I asked Peter if I could use it online.

Peter had just finished reading the Bobby Kennedy story in ROLLING STONE before he had finally gotten the inspiration to put this disperate lines together into a song but it was Bush's call for more government access to internet records that pushed him over the top and got him to take out his pen and start the process. Peter told me that while he was writing his head was swirling with Katrina images, thoughts of the trillion dollar debt and the Bush Regime's steadfast policy of more riches for the rich.

You can listen to the demo-- which, of course, is quite a bit different from what it will eventually sound like when Peter goes to a professional studio and records it for an album-- right here at his MySpace site. But it is pretty much what it will sound like if you catch any of Peter's live shows this month. He's playing a couple gigs in L.A. as well as concerts in St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville, Birmingham, and Atlanta.
