DONNA! DONNA! DONNA! I MEAN CONGRESSWOMAN DONNA!

>

In 2006 the sweetest primary victories were when grassroots activists like Jerry McNerney, Carol Shea-Porter, and John Hall swamped the hand-picked Insider shills that were being supported by Rahm Emanuel and local puppets like Ellen Tauscher and a bevy of other clueless elected officials who just do what they're told by The Machine. These progressives had one thing going for them: the people. And the people didn't care about what the Insiders had decided what was right for them.

This year the case in MD-04 was even clearer, where Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Emanuel, Steny Hoyer and other Insider Democrats-- the ones who have kept impeachment off the table and kept the troops in Iraq-- helped push forward a worthless, corrupt reactionary backbencher. Their corporately-funded puppet got his ass kicked today by the people. The grassroots spoke-- very loud and very clear. Donna Edwards and smart, committed, independent-minded men and women like her are the future of the Democratic Party.

The new voters who were so motivated by Obama also voted overwhelmingly for Donna. Basically with voter participation skyrocketing in Maryland, Wynn's numbers are pretty much the same as what he got in 2006. Most of those extra voters went for Donna and her message of real change.

Donna will be more than just another Democratic congressmember. She's smart, seasoned, understands progressive values and is dedicated to principles. She worked hard in 2006 and never stopped believing in what she was trying to accomplish. And we never stopped believing in her either. The Blue America efforts of DWT, Firedoglake, Crooks & Liars, and Digby brought in over $61,000, more than for any of our candidates this year so far. Grassroots donors contributed almost $400,000 for Donna through ActBlue, enough to overcome gigantic efforts by scores of corporate special interests and the concerted efforts of the Democratic Party Establishment. Steny Hoyer, Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel must be kicking over the furniture tonight.

Oh man, that is just awesome. I haven't cared so much for a single candidate in a congressional race since Ned Lamont.

Thank you Howie. Thank you and all the other great bloggers who helped make this possible.

Obama's coattails helped Donna a lot. She deserves a lot of credit but so does he for getting so many new voters involved. Donna & Obama!

This is particularl good news for Diane Benson in Alaska. The same folks interested in Wynn are interested in one of Benson's primary opponents. Go, donna!

Meah, good for her. If she stays in long enough, she'll fall into the same trap that Wynn fell into. Tends to happen after X number of terms and the power of incumbency makes you feel invincible.

This news just warms my heart. Go Donna!

She's definately an agent for change. Particularly considering that's what will be left in all of our pockets once they're done with us!

We haven't done enough to thank the OBAMSIAH for all he's done for America! The caucuses are for him and so are the major corporations!!! We are all beneath the Obamasiah and the tribulations that must follow injustice for the just. I mean Justice for just. I mean justice for the unjust.

Gosh, you people sound like idiots with your "corporate puppet" bullshit. I'm a life-long dem and this kind of crap doesn't help. You should form your own fringe party if you're going to continue to trash people like this.

Trolls, why do you hate democracy? The people have spoken and you hate our voice, why?

This is great news -- congratulations to Donna and to everyone who helped get her elected. I hope this is the first of many races won by the right kind of Democrats against the party machinery.

Down With The Pirate Gang !
Pelosi and Reid,et alia, are just as bad as Bush and Cheney. Worse, if their duplicity is taken into account. At least Bushco & Assocs. don't wear masks when they rape and pillage.

Because your voice will cripple this country with higher taxes, liberal insanity, defeat overseas, the undermining of traditional values, and many other things that a majority of Americans hold dear. I'm not undermining what the people in MD-04 voted for, I'm just staunchly disagreeing with it (unless of course the 1st Amendment doesn't mean anything to liberals).

And even though it belies a fundamental ignorance that knuckle-draggers just can't overcome . . . understand the following. I would WELCOME what you said just to get rid of people like you. You're conservative experiment is D E A D. And why will it never come back? Because the demographic of the U.S. has fundamentally changed. It will not ever go back to those that vote for the dim-wits who, among many other rampant stupidities, think that the Earth is 6k years old. So, type what you will, wherever you want, but I'd rather be EXACTLY what you say I am than to live in a country where you have any say over anything. So spew what you will if it makes you feel better, but I'm just enjoying the show as you people scream and yell as you fade into irrelevancy.

Why do people like that Anonymous at 9:01 keep calling the Founding Fathers insane liberals? As well as calling the people who brought us Public Libraries, Public Schools, consumer safety regulations, the end of child labor, the 40 hour work week, worker safety standards, etc. etc. insane liberals. I can't help but get the feeling that people who think like that really don't like America.

To the trolls who are afraid of paying their fair share in taxes - could you tell me how you're paying for a 2 trillion dollar illegal war? I know the little that Halliburton and Exxon/Mobile pay in taxes isn't covering it. If you don't want taxes PLEASE stop using government services.

At 11:36 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't give me that liberal bullshit about "paying my fair share!" I already do pay my fair share and I make less than $40K a year! The last thing that I need right now are my damn taxes going up, which is EXACTLY what happens when Democrats get elected!

Conservative "values" have become a contradiction in terms. "Borrow and spend" conservatism would rather tax your children plus interest than actually raise the taxes of the present (without interest). Conservatism has rejected its own values, and now America is rejecting this dead-end conservatism, including true conservatives and progressives. The reason why conservatives and progressives will vote Obama president in a landslide is that he will bring back fiscal responsibility, small government, non-interventionism, accountability, free enterprise and competition (no no-bid contracts), competence, support for military families, honor and respect for working families, things destroyed by Bush-brand faux conservatism. Good luck trolls, no one is listening to you except you. Reality-based decision-making is "in the house." What haven't you and your cronies screwed up when you had the power to change things for the better? Time to take responsibility and realize that you've reached a dead-end of a dead-end philosophy of governing.

Actually "anonymous" what happens when Democrats are elected (unless they've already been put in the hole by Republicans) is that they balance budgets, do the preventative stuff that keeps your tax bill from going up and are in general, better for the economy. If you checked your history, you'd find that has generally been true.

Being as Bush has spent us into a major hole, you might have to pay some extra taxes, yes. Would you rather that China own more of us than it does now?

At 12:18 PM, Blogger B McNeal said...

Anonymous at 11:36, what does "pay your fair share" even mean? Taxes in America are relatively low compared to other nations (such as Germany, France, etc) so what are you talking about?

Though if you were really concerned about lowering taxes, you would be angry about how our corporate citizens finagle their way out of paying them.

You're going to be paying taxes regardless if the government uses the money to fund invasions of sovereign nations that have done nothing to us, or uses them to repair, for example, the infrastructure of the our cities that is falling apart all around us.

The difference is, if you haven't noticed, is that money spent on infrastructure not only benefits more people by creating jobs, and providing thousands of secondary industries; while using your tax money for military spending pretty much ensures that the beneficiaries are almost exclusively companies like Halliburton, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, etc.

So it's not the taxes you should be so concerned with because I too earn less than 40K, though I should be angrier than you sound because my tax monies are currently being squandered by Bush and his cronies.

Which on the face of it you seem OK with.
