Blue America's Last Contest Of The 2012 Cycle... Frank Sinatra

>

This is a chance to win something by the Chairman of the Board... and defeat the current Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee at the same time. Monday we're picking the winner of the VERY GOOD YEARS Frank Sinatra R.I.A.A.-certified double platinum award as part of our efforts to help independent progressive Democrat Lee Rogers replace corrupt old Establishment hack and warmonger Buck McKeon in California's 25th CD.

You know, Tuesday we're going to have some wins and we're going to have some losses and Blue America is very proud of all the candidates we backed this cycle and very proud of all our wonderful contributors who helped them along their very onerous and often thankless roads.

In this last weekend before the election, we feel pretty confident that Alan Grayson will be back in Congress and that David Gill (D-IL), Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Ann Kuster (D-NH) and Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) will be at his side. Things have been moving along nicely for Nate Shinagawa (D-NY) as well and all three of our Senate endorsees, look like winners. A last minute poll here in Los Angeles shows that Lee Rogers has tightened his race with Buck McKeon to within single digits. All the last minute money we raise for him is going right into his last minute advertising and GOTV efforts. It looks like we're reach out goal of raising $5,000 with the Frank Sinatra award by the time we randomly pick the winner on Monday. Still not too late to get in on this.

By now you probably know that before I started DownWithTyranny, I was the president of Reprise Records, the company Sinatra started as an artist refuge for musicians who didn't want to be bossed around by the major labels. When Reprise was revived in 1989 I was determined to live up to Sinatra's goals regarding creative freedom for our artists. One of the first things I wanted to do was release a single disc greatest hits record with Sinatra's masterpieces, like "Luck Be A Lady," "The Way You Look Tonight," "Fly Me To the Moon," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Send in the Clowns," "That's Life," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Love and Marriage," "Strangers in the Night," "My Way"... 20 of Sinatra's most classic tunes. The collection is called The Very Good Years and it came out in 1991 and sold over two million copies immediately.

Although Reprise had scores of gold and platinum records for artists like Green Day, Joni Mitchell, The B-52's, Jimi Hendrix, Depeche Mode, Neil Young, The Smiths, Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrissette, Fleetwood Mac, Lou Reed, Cher... the only platinum award ever to hang in my office was The Very Good Years by the Chairman of the Board, our founder. I've decided to part with that exact historic RIAA-certified, framed double-platinum award and use it to raise campaign contributions for Lee Rogers in his epic battle against McKeon for the congressional seat in Santa Clarita, Simi Valley and the Antelope Valley.

Again, the idea is to award the rare, collectible disc to one random Lee Rogers supporter who contributes to his campaign on this page. [Note: we know times are tough and there is no minimum contribution.]

Lee Rogers, who works as a surgeon on amputation prevention was, until he started his campaign, the national spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association. His whole life has been dedicated to helping his fellow man. He's running against one of the most corrupt men in the history of the U.S. Congress, Buck McKeon, who was just named among Congress' Most Corrupt by the nonpartisan good government group, Citizens for Responsibility And Ethics in Washington. McKeon is the only Member of Congress still in office who took bribes as a "Friend Of Angelo" in the Countrywide Mortgage Scandal that helped burst the housing bubble and derail the American economy. His immense gambling debts to Organized Crime figure (and probable agent of China) Sheldon Adelson are a national security risk, given the regular high level national security briefings he gets as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, briefings Adelson would do anything to get his hands on.

Whether you want the platinum award or not, it pays to help Lee Rogers defeat and replace Buck McKeon, an avid anti-Choice fanatic, a vicious homophobe who rallied the Mormon Church in the Prop 8 battle to deny equal rights to the LGBT community, an anti-Latino bigot working to kill the DREAM Act both nationally and statewide and the worst warmonger in the whole Congress. McKeon has voted to end Medicare 4 times and would like to sell Social Security off to Wall Street. There isn't a worse Member of Congress anywhere-- and he's vulnerable to defeat Tuesday. The DCCC has a policy against taking on powerful GOP committee chairmen but CA-25 is a district Obama won in 2008 and is likely to win by an even greater margin in November. And McKeon is intensely disliked in his district-- even by Republicans, who just voted in great numbers against his wife in her ridiculous run for the state Assembly. Now's the time-- here's the place.

We are lucky that people exist who have done well in business and who are now putting their intellectual skills and writing abilities to such a good use as DownWithTyranny. Cool.
