Mitt Hasn't Made Up His Mind On McCarthyism Yet-- Still Weighing The Pros And Cons

>

Tuesday morning when I woke up I saw Senator John McCain was already tweeting away. The poor old fella was being targeted again by the dominant teabagger wing of the GOP, angry at him for denouncing psychotic Islamophobe Michele Bachmann. McCain really seems to have started something and even Boehner and Cantor are telling the crazy lady from Minnesota to calm down and stop embarrassing the party, her constituents, Congress and herself. This is McCain's original tweet:

It leads to a story in the Arizona Capitol Times by Jeremy Duda, one of many this week, expressing quite a bit of antipathy towards McCain for calling out Bachmann for being a divisive publicity hound. But this one is about a freak in McCain's own backyard who says he's going to lead an effort to recall McCain from office.
A prominent Phoenix tea party leader who believes Muslims cannot be trusted to be loyal to the United States and should not be working for the federal government is incensed with U.S. Sen. John McCain’s defense of a top State Department official and is eying a recall drive against Arizona’s senior senator.

Wes Harris, the founder and chairman of the Original North Phoenix Tea Party, said he plans to take out a recall petition against McCain. While Harris has many problems with McCain, a mass email he sent out focused solely on the senator’s recent defense of Huma Abedin, a top aide to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Harris accused Abedin of having ties to an Islamic extremist group, and he objected to the fact that a Muslim was working for the State Department in the first place.

Harris said he believes Muslims’ loyalty to the U.S. is questionable because their ultimate loyalty is to the Quran and Islam, which he described as “more a fascist type of organization.”

“Have you ever read the Quran? I suggest you do so, because anyone that is a Muslim is a threat to this country, and that’s a fact,” Harris told the Arizona Capitol Times. “There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. If they are Muslim they have to follow the Quran. That’s their religion and that’s their doctrine.”

Harris said he plans to circulate recall petitions against McCain. In his email, he said, “We must find a way to get rid of this embarrassment.”

The email Harris sent includes a forwarded item from the blog Bare Naked Islam that castigates McCain for defending “Islamic enemies of America” and attacking U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican and tea party favorite. The blog piece ends by saying, “Go to hell, Senator, it’s time for you to take your final dirt nap.”... “Is she a Muslim? Is she an active Muslim?” Harris said. “I rest my case. That’s all she needs to be.”

Easy enough to dismiss someone as obviously profoundly disturbed as the King of the North Phoenix Tea Party... but what about when a U.S. Congressman-- albeit one who only pops his head out of his garbage can from time to time-- sounds just as deranged. Yes, of course I'm talking about the most embarrassing trash Texas has ever sent to Washington, Louie Louie Gohmert. He called McCain "numb nuts" on the Dennis Miller Show... yeah, it's that kind of show and Gohmert is that kind of congressman.
Well, it’s obvious that John McCain didn’t even read the letter because of what he said in accusing Michele and us of making these horrible accusations. There were five letters and there were many things that are stated that are facts in each letter. And I wish some of these numb nuts would go out and read the letter before they make these horrible allegations about the horrible accusations we’re making. But we also know that John McCain himself had said back in the early stages of stuff going on in Egypt that he was, in his words, “unalterably opposed to helping the Muslim Brotherhood.” Well, obviously the unalterable person has been altered, so he is okay with it now.

What kind of people vote for a crackpot like that to represent them? Damn! I'm glad I don't live in Tyler, Lufkin or Longview!

Romney isn't saying a word about the controversy. That's the kind of "leader" he is. He has made it clear he doesn't want Bachmann to have a speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa-- but he's axed Palin and Ron Paul too. On the other hand, one of his top foreign policy advisors, John Bolton, is all down with Bachmann, Gohmert and the rest of the freaks. Now if you think Dennis Miller has a shows for weirdos and misanthropes, keep away from Frank Gaffney’s on-air freak show. Bolton was on Tuesday agreeing with Bachmann and extolling the virtues of McCarthyism itself. "Why," he wondered aloud, "is even asking whether we are living up to our standards a legitimate area of congressional oversight, why has that generated this criticism? I’m just mystified by it."
Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Yellow mother custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

I'm sure Willard has had his mind made up about McCarthyism for some time. He just hasn't had the right audience to whom to reveal it. I presume he'll spill it all in Tampa ... between floor gun fights.

I remember getting tweets from angry neocons for stating that Dennis Miller's not funny, on the order of "DENNIS MILLER IS FUNNY, YOU LIBERAL TRAITOR FAGGOT!!!1!1" But then, I can brag that I got blocked by alleged novelist Glenn Beck.

This is the same kind of childishness, and I'm not surprised it's being aimed at McCain (I'm waiting for La Palin herself to fire her poison dart). At times like this I'm tempted to believe that American conservatism is really a morbid fear of growing up...
