House Votes To Defund Planned Parenthood-- Senate Doesn't

>

If you ever signed up for anything political online-- short of a Newt Gingrich scam-- you've probably gotten another breathless, nonsensical e-mail from either the DSCC or the DCCC in the last couple weeks soliciting you to help them stop the Republican war on women and prevent the GOP from defunding Planned Parenthood. After the Democratic leadership gave Boehner enough votes (81) to cover the 59 defections on the C.R. for the 2011 budget (which includes a mean-spirited amendment to make it more difficult for women in DC to get an abortion), the Republicans got down to one of their favorite symbolic divisive tactics in the House, Pence's shrill hysteria about interfering with women's health.

Needless to say, it passed, 241-185, with 7 Republicans voting with the Democrats and 10 anti-choice fanatics in the Democratic caucus crossing the aisle to vote with the war on women crowd:
Dan Boren (Blue Dog-OK)
Jerry Costello (IL)
DCCC posterboy Mark Critz (PA)
Joe Donnelly (Blue Dog-IN and likely DSCC pick to run for the Senate)
Dan Lipinski (IL)
Mike McIntyre (Blue Dog-NC)
Collin Peterson (Blue Dog-MN)
Nick Rahall (WV)
Mike Ross (Blue Dog-AR)
Heath Shuler (Blue Dog-NC)

I wonder how many women and pro-Choice men will fall for the DCCC's pleas to protect women's health by donating to them so they can fund unpopular anti-women fanatics like Critz, Ross, Shuler, Rahall and McIntyre. Plenty, is my guess.

Watch Barbara Lee kicking ass yesterday on the House floor. She's so awesome:

The Senate then took up the same proposition, defunding Planned Parenthood. It failed 42-58, with several Republicans refusing to go along with the extremists (Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski and Mark Kirk). Poor cowardly Dick Lugar! Last time yhis came up he took a courageous stand against his party and for the women of Indiana. This time, petrified of a teabagger primary opponent, he forgot about the women of Indiana and just went along with the GOP. On the Democratic side of the aisle, not even inbred anti-Choicers Ben Nelson and Joe Manchin got suckered into this shameful misogyny vote.
