Who Will Pay For Glenn Beck's Racism And Hatred On Fox Now?
>
The Color Of Change campaign asking advertisers to stop underwriting Glenn Beck's outrageous incitement of racism, civil discord and violent rage has been very successful. Mainstream advertisers are telling Fox they want their ads pulled from Beck's shows. Normally an advertiser just buys a run of ads and they are placed across all programming. I know; I work with the Blue America ad buyer, Jacquie Propps, and we just placed our second flight of cable TV ads in Arkansas explaining the unhelpful role Blanche Lincoln has taken in the health care debate. When I went over the list of where the first 1,000 spot ran, I noticed that right in there with spots on The Fugitive, Anderson Cooper 360, Reba and Larry King Live, shows that all reach the kind of mainstream audience we were looking for, were several ads in Little Rick, Pine Bluff and Fayetteville on Beck's show. We were aghast and asked the cable operators to pull the ads that started running yesterday from that show, which they were able to do before any had run. Whew! Color of Change didn't have to ask us; we were self policing. And many of the Beck advertisers were in the same place we were. They didn't even know their spots were underwriting TV's biggest hate monger.
Color of Change has so far persuaded GEICO, Proctor & Gamble, Lawyers.com, Progressive Insurance, SC Johnson, Ally Bank, Men's Wearhouse, Sargento, Travelocity, Radio Shack, ConAgra (maker of Healthy Choice products), Roche, Sanofi-Aventis. Here's part of a letter from Radio Shack to Color of Change:
This confirms that there is no advertising we (RadioShack) [are] buying on the Glen Beck Show or anywhere on the Fox News Channel. What viewers are seeing on FNC and Glen Beck is manufacturer advertising that has tagged their messages with "RadioShack" as the retail destination to purchase their product(s). In this most recent instance, it is most likely the product called magicJack that has tagged our name throughout their commercial.
We've asked magicJack to immediately cease and desist running all commercials with our name tagged in the spot on FNC. In fact, I just received verification from one our merchants that magicJack has confirmed the commercial will be pulled from the Fox News Channel rotation ASAP.
With Beck weeping and whining that Color of Change's campaign is being orchestrated by powerful forces out to get him, the campaign got some added impetus today when conservative blogger-- and former Bush speech writer, David Frum published a piece on the violence the "reckless right" is fomenting. His point is that irresponsible and hysterical fanatics like Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity are using raw and dangerous extremism to court the kind of ratings that attract advertisers-- very weak-minded people who sit in front of their TVs all day-- people with no lives who are open to suggestion, whether about buying a product or working themselves up into racist, murderous passions.
A man bearing a sidearm appears outside President Obama’s Aug. 11 town hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., under a sign proclaiming, “It is time to water the tree of liberty.”
That phrase of course references a famous statement of Thomas Jefferson’s, from a 1787 letter: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.”
Earlier that same day, another man is arrested inside the school building in which the president will speak. Police found a loaded handgun in his parked car.
At an event held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona last week, police were called after one attendee dropped a gun.
Nobody has been hurt so far. We can all hope that nobody will be. But firearms and politics never mix well. They mix especially badly with a third ingredient: the increasingly angry tone of incitement being heard from right-of-center broadcasters.
The Nazi comparisons from Rush Limbaugh; broadcaster Mark Levin asserting that President Obama is “literally at war with the American people”; former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin claiming that the president was planning “death panels” to extirpate the aged and disabled; the charges that the president is a fascist, a socialist, a Marxist, an illegitimate Kenyan fraud, that he “harbors a deep resentment of America,” that he feels a “deep-seated hatred of white people,” that his government is preparing concentration camps, that it is operating snitch lines, that it is planning to wipe away American liberties”: All this hysterical and provocative talk invites, incites, and prepares a prefabricated justification for violence.
And indeed some conservative broadcasters are lovingly anticipating just such an outcome.
Here’s Fox News’ Glenn Beck clucking sympathetically that white males are being driven into murderous rage by “political correctness.”
Here again is Beck chuckling as he play-acts the poisoning of Nancy Pelosi.
Just yesterday, the radio host Sean Hannity openly contemplated violence-- and primly tut-tutted that if it occurs, the president will have only himself to blame.
Hyperbolic accusation and fantasy murder may well serve a talk-radio industry facing a collapse in advertising revenues-- down 30–40 percent over the past two years, reports NewMajority.com’s Tim Mak.
As revenues dwindle, hosts feel compelled to intensify the talk-radio experience, hoping to win larger audience share with more extreme talk. It’s like the early days of the pornography industry: At first a naked woman is thrilling enough, but soon a jaded audience is demanding more and more, wilder and wilder.
For the radio hosts, it’s all mostly a cynical marketing exercise. But the audience? Not all of them know better.
In April, the Department of Homeland Security released a report warning of the danger of right-wing political violence in the United States, and mainstream conservatives erupted in offense.
...It’s not enough for conservatives to repudiate violence, as some are belatedly beginning to do. We have to tone down the militant and accusatory rhetoric. If Barack Obama really were a fascist, really were a Nazi, really did plan death panels to kill the old and infirm, really did contemplate overthrowing the American constitutional republic—if he were those things, somebody should shoot him.
But he is not. He is an ambitious, liberal president who is spending too much money and emitting too much debt.
Color of Change has turned the tables on Beck and on Fox News. The ad revenues they were hoping to generate by ginning up racism and bigotry among paranoid seniors and angry low-information, anti-intellectual viewers is instead decreasing as more and more advertisers decline to have their products identified with Beck's divisive Goebbels-like ranting. Soon no one will be buying ad space on Beck's show but shady companies trying to hoodwink feebleminded elderly folks into buying gold.

I'm proud to say I signed the Color of Change Letter.
Glad they are effective!
Regrettably, Howie, most advertisers don't really care about anything other than viewers. Beck has them, and there will always be people to take up the slack of those who leave.
Again, I can only emphasize what most people will try to forget: the one real way to deal with this is the return of the Fairness Doctrine. When you have on far-right appeasers but must give equal time to their opponents, suddenly the loons and the cynics stop looking so good for ratings. Am I wrong in this?
It's one thing for the Left to go over Conservatives - ho hum. But now they're actively attacking Libertarians like Beck.
Ironically, the Left (Daily Kos, Others), were actively recruiting support among Libertarians in the last couple years. Some Libertarians fell for it.
What's truly wonderful about all this, is that Right Libertarians such as myself have been warning our Left-leaning Libertarian buddies, to be wary of and active alliance with the Left, even it was temporary to gain a short term goal.
Now with you all actively attacking Beck, who's loved by even Left Libertarians, this will give great credence to what we Right Libertarians have been warning.
Keep it up Progressives. Attack Libertarians as much as you can.
Here's some other Libertarians you should go after: John Stossel, Judge Napolitano, Neal Boortz, Tammy Bruce, Larry Elder, Dennis Miller, PJ O'Rourke, Marc Steyn, and Pamela Geller.
Eric Dondero, Publisher
Libertarian Republican
Eric Dondero is the example I have been screaming about!!! He is the NEAL BOORTZ follower that is destroying this country--- Nothing but Republicans that can't come out of the closet! This guy admits it!
AMAZING!! Nothing like proof I have been correct all along to get one's day started!
If Libertarians want to be associated with the despicable Glenn Beck, as Mr. Dondero asserts, that's fine.
Libertarians are nothing, Mr. Dondero. You write as if they are some kind of significant group. They're not.
The people you listed are Republicans. They don't vote for the Libertarian candidate. Nobody does.
And Beck isn't a libertarian. Beck was standard Republican neo-con for a good while. Then he briefly tried out middle-of-the-road, when his career seemed to be halting. It failed, as well. Then he latched onto wingnut loon hate talk: it worked.
So no, our dear Mr. Beck isn't a man with a principled political viewpoint. He's a hack. And Mr. Dondero is concern trolling for Republicans. Which makes him a joke up here on the Web, where people can easily access Beck's previous statements and appearances.
Beck is a CHAMPION OF LIBERTY! Your puny speech denying will not effect the ratings. The pounding down of sicko liberals is just beginning. Let Freedom Ring!
You losers are not going to stop anything! Beck is not speaking hate speech nor racism. He is getting somewhere in his investigations and informing the American people. And you are scared!
You will not succeed. I bet some of these advertisers will be back. Beck's show is very highly rated. They need the money. And if you dont like his show, DONT WATCH!!!!
If you want to boycott hate speech, turn on MSNBC or CNN who have called regular citizens "teabaggers", "racists", "mobs", etc.
P1 listeners? The majority of Glenn Beck's audience Tivo's or DVR's his program because it airs at 5pm EST. Believe it or not, some Americans still have a job under this corrupt administration. His ratings are a testament to the thirst for truth in media. The double standard in today's left-leaning broadcasting astounds me. After 20-years of attending services of the Reverand Wright who spewed the now infamous "God Damn America" speach, it's hard not to question whether this hate speech rubbed off on President Obama. I for one, and a Glenn Beck supporter, I don't agree with all he says, but I firmly beleive he stands up for the majority of Americans, free speech and is a defender of our U.S. Constitution, where our current President is not.
You losers supporting this are hypocritical cowards!
Your groups who do this are the ones who are hateful and racist. It is so sad how you people have to use the race card so often to get your way. You wont be getting Beck off the air. So might as well give up. Millions watch him because he takes on a task our liberal media refuses to do. He is starting to connect the dots of this corrupt administration and you people are scared. LOL I love it.
You know when someone is doing their job when angry liberal loons start resorting to these tactics. WE are winning. Keep crying losers!
It's hard to stop a train once it gets rolling. This hate Beck will cost these coward companies big time. Cancelled my State Farm this week. Never have a P&G product in my house again.
2010 - This will be the big sweep! When Newt and the R's took over on Clinton will look like baby play. REAL CHANGE is comming. Dems will be pounded to submission. I predict a nearly 20 year punishment for electing an Amatuer commie/marxist/socialist/
reparationist.
Wow. One idiot with 4 logins in a row, saying the same, ignorant things. Look: if you don't want somebody to figure out you're just one lone loon, vary the ideas behind your content. Adopt different poses. Stop the same, silly "Beck is an advocate for truth!" nonsense 24/7, because 1) it doesn't fly when anyone investigates it, making you appear foolish, and 2) it just shows you can't do anything but repeat yourself ad nauseum for times. Which makes you look even more foolish.
Balakirev? Who the H*ll are you? I speak for myself. 2 different folks here. Both of us speak with conviction however. We believe what we say, and say what we believe. Unlike Obamabots who read from a cheat sheet. No original thoughts.

When the not so smart POTUS forces you liberals to the anus of history, you will see conservatives dominate USA for many years to come.
"conservatives dominate USA for many years to come" ???
hey "Mobster! Conservative" and others like you.. the US Census Bureau predicts that ethnic minorities will represent more than half of the US population by 2040. Add that to the population of fair minded progressive whites and you right wing racists can forget about being in control again. Have a nice day :-)
But wasn't it outrageous when Kanye West not only called President Bush a "racist", but also said that he sent the National Guard to kill Black people? Huh? Wasn't that outrageous too??? or is it only an outrage when a conservative says it?
You are utterly pathetic...just go to bed tonight knowing that simple little fact.
BRAVO! BRAVO! I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER MYSELF! BRAVO!
