So, do you think it's too early to start up a Bachmann for President drive? Maybe with Tancredo as VP. What a winning team! Then we only need to cut off the electricity, down the power lines, tear up the roads, string up some witches, and 1000 AD, here we come! Woo-hoo!
What appeals to me about the idea is that maybe a presidential candidacy is what we need to make Michele B, er, go away!

The TT cartoon captures the utter cluelessness of some of the Republican base. The same people probably think that Bachman and Tancredo are smart and deep thinkers
Ah, but Lee, I'll bet the Republican base doesn't think Bachmann and Tancredo are deep thinkers, or even particularly intelligent, and that's just what they like. The current GOP base consists of very wealthy white people, a few minorities that have sold their souls for visibility, and a broad low income group that support the overlord because their parents supported him, and because he takes care of them, and because God chose him, they know he's just like them, and it's the Proper thing to do. They will never question their view of the universe in which the simplest answers are the ones that work, the people they believe in always mean the best, and the people who articulate complex problems and solutions are dangerous outsiders by definition.
It's a lot like the medieval redaction of the Ptolemaic planetary system, you know? Everything in a crystal sphere, all aligned perfectly. It needs no change at all. By that analogy, we're all bunches of meteors trying to crash things up.
