It's Good To Get Wasserman Schultz Out Of Red  To Blue But I Pity The Poor Freshmen Who Have To Kiss Her Ass Now

>

Birds of a feather... Mario and Debbie, plotting

The good news is that the DCCC finally took the blogosphere's advice and got Debbie Wasserman Schultz out of the Red to Blue program she screwed up so badly. As a co-chair of that project-- charged with electing Democratic challengers in red districts-- she immediately announced a list of Republicans in districts adjacent to her own that she would make sure would be re-elected against the Democratic Party candidates. And that was the end of the DCCC's credibility for 2008. The Democrats Wasserman Schultz sought to undermine, Raul Martinez, Joe Garcia and especially Annette Taddeo were all defeated by Wasserman Schultz's right wing amigos, the notorious Diaz-Balart brothers and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Her shabby treatment of another Florida Democrat, Doug Tudor, was the last straw for many activists in Florida.

Yesterday, DCCC Chairman eased her out of the Red to Blue position and kicked her upstairs to the Frontline committee where she will be charged with helping incumbents retain their seats in 2010. Obviously activists will be watching closely to see if she allocates funds inappropriately. There are 83 Democrats representing in Republican districts that Bush won in 2004 and all can expect to be targets of a desperate Republican Party in 2010, although many elected in 2006 came through this year with flying colors, way over the 55% mark usually looked at as a danger signal if unmet.

Idaho Republicans are already lining up to challenge freshman Democrat Walt Minnick, probably one of the least secure of all the freshmen, mostly because he defeated an embarrassing and disliked freshman in an overwhelmingly red district (R+19)-- and only be the narrowest of margins.
The Cook Political Report ranks the district, which covers western Idaho, the 14th most conservative in the country, and it’s a top target for Republicans. President Bush won it with 69 percent in 2004. And with Sali out, the seat is attracting interest from some popular state politicians.

If Minnick is lucky Sali will run again, which he is threatening to do.

I know this was written tongue-deeply-embedded-in-cheek, but I really don't care whether the DCCC kicked W-S out because of her surreal track record, the blogosphere, Obama, or advice from the tarot. She's gone, and I can only hope her replacement acts with a combination of greater integrity and intelligence.

Make that a lot more integrity and intelligence. "Greater" in context could be misunderstood to mean someone who is only slightly less venal and cynical than S-W, which isn't what we need.
