House Republicans Do The Right Thing-- Kick Don Young Off His Committee
>
Alaska's other top GOP criminal, Rep. Don Young hasn't been indicted yet-- which was enough for Alaska reactionaries to re-elect him last month-- but House Republican leaders, fully aware that Young is likely to end up in prison sometime during the coming year, moved preemptively to distance themselves from his rotting carcass of a political career. He was dumped as the ranking member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, the platform that allowed him to commit much of his felonious behavior.
I don't know who Young thinks he's fooling, but he issued a statement today claiming he left the lucrative post voluntarily, claiming he's "confident that the cloud that hangs over me will eventually clear as I know I have done nothing wrong... However, for the good of the Republican Party, the right thing for me to do is temporarily step down from my post as ranking member on the House Committee on Natural Resources while my name is cleared. At that time, I look forward to regaining my post."
What actually happened is that Boehner called him aside and told him he's a persona non grata among GOP Leaders in the House.
Boehner told Young he wouldn't support him continuing on as the ranking Republican on the committee. He also told him that the steering committee controlling which Republicans get the top spots on House committees was unlikely to support the Alaska Republican. Still, Young went forward Tuesday with a presentation to the committee, which is a requirement for all of the members seeking top committee post.
No one bought his pathetic sob story and he was dumped from that position just as he had been dumped the previous day from the Republican steering committee, replaced by homophobic maniac and Mormon extremist Mike Simpson (R-ID).
And now will Pelosi do the same thing with Rangel or do we have to watch the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee being frog walked out of the Congress in the not too distant future and carted off to prison?
