Come Meet Andrew Rice (D-OK)

>

Andrew with Bishop Tutu

This Saturday at 3PM I'm going to be co-hosting a live event for Oklahoma U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Rice in Venice, California. If you're in the L.A. area and would like to meet Andrew and see why we're so enthusiastic about him at Blue America, join me and John Amato from Crooks & Liars as well as co-hosts Congressman Henry Waxman, State Senator Sheila Kuehl, Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, L.A. City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, filmmaker Robert Greenwald and Senator Dianne Feinstein in welcoming Andrew and his wife to our town. It's at 3pm and if you'd like to come send an e-mail to Don at Andrew's campaign and tell him Howie sent you (don@andrewforoklahoma.com).

If you'd like to donate to Andrew's campaign, he's a Blue America endorsee and you can find his him here. If you'd rather send him a check, the best address is:

Andrew is the only candidate that the Sierra Club has endorsed for 2008 so far. As the co-chair of the Oklahoma State Senate Health Care Committee, he's been fighting a battle against right wing ideologues trying to screw health care up even further. Many of his ideas will give you a notion of what it would be like to replace a reactionary maniac like James Inhofe with a sane and energetic progressive like Andrew.

Here was a note I got from Andrew this morning explaining the difference between Insider fundraising (i.e., all Republicans and Democrats like Schumer and Emanuel) and grassroots fundraising.
The special interest PACs in Washington, D.C. pass out $5,000 checks to my opponent, incumbent Jim Inhofe, like they're pocket change. That's because they have the money and during his 40 years in elective office, Sen. Inhofe has rewarded them with votes and favors.

I will be a U.S. Senator who represents everyday Oklahomans on issues that affect jobs and the economy, health care, the War in Iraq and education. I want Oklahoma working families to have a fighting chance to own a home, send their kids to college and enjoy a secure retirement. Jim Inhofe has voted time and again to protect the special interests and let everyday Oklahomans fend for themselves.

Today, I am issuing the "Everyday People's Challenge": By giving $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford, you can help my campaign raise $5,000 by March 31st, 2008. Together, you and your friends will be the only special interest that matters to me as your next U.S. Senator. Together, you can equal one of Sen. Inhofe's special interest PAC checks. I hope you will go to ActBlue and contribute today.
