IF JOHN EDWARDS IS THE BEST, WHO IS THE WORST CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT?
>
The first time I met Howard Dean I didn't know much about him. Because a trade organization I was part of had once donated a great sum of money to some Democratic Party committee Clinton was hawking money for, most of the Democratic presidential candidates had been calling and asking for a meeting with me. Dick Gephart I asked to leave me the hell alone and stop bothering me. Dean I invited over for breakfast. But all I knew about him was that he opposed Bush's Iraq war. I was still leaning towards Edwards when Dean came over. When he left I was a 100% Howard Dean partisan. And it was his strong stance on health care and against the insurance companies that won me over.
The latest polling from Iowa shows that John Edwards could be on the verge of pulling off a stupendous upset, sending Lieberman's protege from Illinois back to learn how to be a halfway decent senator and pitting the ultimate insider, Clinton, against someone who has learned to embrace the aspirations of real Americans, Edwards.
And according to Aaron Lewis of CBS News, Edwards has promised to take on a far worse enemy of ordinary Americans than Osama bin-Laden-- Big Insurance. After telling a story about how an insurance company tried denying a claim-- causing the death of a young woman who was entitled to coverage-- he came right out and said something that-- if you believe him-- makes him the only candidate qualified to be the peoples' president:
Edwards also told the audience of about a hundred people at the Score Pavillion in Nevada, Iowa, that it will take a fighter (i.e. him)-- and not a negotiator (i.e. Obama)-- to take on large insurance companies like CIGNA.
"Anybody who thinks that we don't have a fight in front of us is living in Never-Never Land," he said.
And if Edwards is the best, as hard as it is to pick the absolute worst, today's Concord Monitor took a good shot and came up with... Willard.
In the 2008 campaign for president, there are numerous issues on which Romney has no record, and so voters must take him at his word. On these issues, those words are often chilling. While other candidates of both parties speak of restoring America's moral leadership in the world, Romney has said he'd like to "double" the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, where inmates have been held for years without formal charge or access to the courts. He dodges the issue of torture- unable to say, simply, that waterboarding is torture and America won't do it.
When New Hampshire partisans are asked to defend the state's first-in-the-nation primary, we talk about our ability to see the candidates up close, ask tough questions and see through the baloney. If a candidate is a phony, we assure ourselves and the rest of the world, we'll know it.
Mitt Romney is such a candidate. New Hampshire Republicans and independents must vote no.
Labels: Democratic presidential race, health insurance, Iowa, John Edwards, Mitt Romney, Republican presidential race

I couldn't agree with you more Howie. While I would have to vote for HRC or Obama in opposition to the cretins of the GOP...I have come to firmly believe that Edwards is the only rational choice for moving the progressive agenda forth.
BTW, if you're still in BKK and have a chance...pay a visit to the Long Gun Saloon down on Soi Cowboy and say hello to Nan, the owner.

Memo to John Edwards:
You have a big problem, sir. The National Enquirer is not backing down on the story about your recent adultry. As Dick Morris, former Clinton buddy, found out from "THE STAR" tabloid, when the tabloids don't back down then only two things could be true.
Either, the National Enquirer is being totally fooled by a completely believable carload of factual-appearling evidence such as emails, witness statements, pictures, and other court-worthy stuff, OR, the National Enquirer is absolutely knowingly slandering you, Mr. Lawyer, and the now-pregnant former coke head, your supposed girlfriend.
So, if this story by the Enquirer is just a big lie, then WHERE IS THE SLANDER LAWSUIT? Right, I guess the last question is the guts of the matter.
Who is David Perel? John Edwards knows.
Mr. Perel is the courageous man who is standing up to the lies and distortion of John Edwards and making the case that, at the very very very minumum, that the former coke head TOLD her FRIENDS that she BELIEVES that she is carrying JOHN EDWARD's BABY. Whether it's his or not is not the point.
And, He ain't backing Down!!! He stands by his story that John Edwards is a cheater and that his "love child" is on the way.
In the hierarchy of American tabloids, The National Enquirer, based in Boca Raton, Fla., is considered the most respectable. It boasts the largest newspaper circulation in the country at nearly 3 million. Editor-in-chief David Perel majored in English at the University of Maryland, went to work for the Washington Post and took a year off to travel. He began his career with the Enquirer as a reporter 19 years ago. He is married, with three children and a rabbit.
He's the messenger. So vette him. So John Edwards can join the group of:
Gary Hart, Dick Morris, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Arnold Schwartneggar, and the long list of cheaters that only the tabloids have the courage to out!
Yeah yeah. Oh my YES! Democrats and Independents have sex. Don't, Stop, Don't Stop!
Give me Bill Clinton, surprisingly competent per Alan Greenspan, versus George W Bush projecting the Big American War Dick into Iraq on false pretenses and a personal vendetta. Mercy me. What a great president, bought the failed Neocon Domino Democracy Theory hook line and sinker! It's just WRONG to be closing schools, firestations and hospitals in this country while building them in Iraq. Neocons, we won't forget your legacy.
The National Enquirer? MUST be true. Shit, we are ALL carrying John Edwards baby, you're not?
The Worst Republican Candidate, now THAT is a competiton, but I am going to have to go with Grandpa Fred. Nixon thought he was stupid, and Nixon was pretty smart-he just got caught like Clinton. Most of these guys have at least some intellectual horsepower. Willard is a scary empty suit, but smart enuf to get elected in Mass and so far not a total joke as a reinvented conservative...hee haw.
Former Edwards campaign Director of Operations, Andrew Young, gives Open Marriage advocates something to cheer about.
The 41-year-old former "North Carolina Finance Director" of the Edwards campaign has stepped forward and not only claimed the "alleged" love child of John Edwards as his but has also moved his six months pregnant mistress, Reille Hunter, into the same multi-million dollar gated community as his own wife and children.
No word from Young's wife on how well she's adjusted to the new neighbor, the 'other' woman and the impending "bundle of joy."
According to the National Enquirer, the bald headed stepchild of the MSM, an unnamed source claims Young, and his 'first' family, his legally married wife and legitimate children, had dinner with his pregnant paramour in her newly acquired abode.
Young issued a statement that he was the father of the Edwards "love child."
Edwards' lawyer called The ENQUIRER and denied the well-coiffed Democratic candidate is the father of Rielle's baby, adding that Rielle would deny it as well.
A day later, in a shocking twist, the attorney for Mr. Young issued a statement that Young fathered Rielle's baby!
"Andrew Young is the father of Ms. Hunter's unborn child," declared his Washington, D.C.-based attorney.
Confusion reigned when Young, contacted by the intrepid Enquirer reporters, denied knowing the mother of his love child, Reille Hunter, even though he staunchly claims the baby is his.
He also denied knowing "any Rielle Hunter," yelling at the top of his voice: "You don't even know who I am!" But when his wife called him "Andrew," he shot her a dirty look.
An enraged Young called police, demanding our reporters be arrested for trespassing. Officers from the Chatham County (N.C.) Sheriff's Department responded, questioned everyone and made no arrests.
Feminists have yet to weigh in. One would think that in this day and age Feminists would wonder why a pregnant woman would need to rely so heavily on the 'father' of her child. That an independent, strong woman, would be able to take responsibility for her own actions especially in matters of conception. And if she chose to keep her baby she would continue to provide for herself and not count on the father or 'others' for her sole support.
Young's decision to move his 44-year-old pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child into the same swank community as his first family shows that old fashioned morality has finally fallen by the wayside replaced by a new set of standards, those of great 1934 Cole Porter musical, Anything Goes!
Hey "anonymous", if that's your REAL name. The National Enquirer must be right. After all, THEY were so dead on about ALIENS endorsing Bill Clinton, Bush falling off the wagon, etc. OK. maybe that last one. Personally, I go to the National Enquirer for all my news on Elvis and Noah's Ark, too!
Lot's of women claim celebrities father their kids. Sometimes it's true. More often it's not. It might even happen that the MSM will go after Edwards with this if he wins the nomination. It makes sense that they would save it until then if they don't want him in the White House (a safe bet). A simple DNA paternity test could straighten it out, but, be forewarned, it might reveal the father to be an alien, angel, or Satan himself!
Anonymous (who interestingly won't put even a pseudonym on his comments) can't even hide his idiocy. How can a baby fathered by one man be the "love child" of another? But of course, he's doing what wingnuts always do -- pull stuff out of his ass (or out of supermarket tabloids), put it out there, and shout it again and again until people believe it. Sort of like the "Saddam was working with Al Qaeda" meme and the "Saddam was behind the 9/11 attacks" meme. It's just what they do.
The problem is that Americans only pay attention to what gets screamed the loudest, so all he has to do is get it OUT THERE.
I'll tell Anonymous something, though....Edwards and his wife are a couple of tough customers. They know that people like him/her are going to pull this kind of shit and they let it roll of their backs like proverbial ducks and water.
Seasons Greetings!!!
YES, what Bruce and Jill said. The trick is to not put TOO much energy into the anonymousies and let them put a LOT in. Plus don't let them throw you off topic if you choose.
Back OT...since the Republicans DON'T really have a candidate yet...the WORST undeclared candidate, (and a California Bumper sticker) is:
Cheney/Satan 2008
I am grateful for this wonderful space that Howie has created for us all, including non-obscene trolls.
Thanks Howie! Happy Trails and
Happy Holidaze all. Best wishes in 2008.
PS. I am still having Edwards Baby.
Bil >:-)>
Edwards is the best, man! I mean, just wait til he brings down those CEOs who have been scamming the American people all these years, workers unite baby! Let's take back this country! 8 years of Bush and the average guy is no better off, you know. Big labor and environmentalism rule, we must have a sustainable society where the average guy can make a decent living.
By the way, when the hell did John Edwards ever figure out what the average guy needs to live better anyway, when he was growing up 35 years ago? In all honesty, this guy would bring the country into a depression of historic proportions.
Who gives a shit if John Edwards has a love child, that is his and his wife's business..ONLY! as was the Clinton's issue. This country is to overun with the crazy Christian right who worry more about things that should be none of their business, instead of running the country, Johnny boy is cute as hell, he probably has women falling all over him, his biz, not ours. What anyone does in the bedroom is only their business. I pray Obama is NOT the candidate, as we will surely lose, he is an arrogant son of a bithc, and nothing else.
to add...Hilary is the next best after Johnny, maybe she will see eye to eye with him, and pick him as VP. Please no Obama, he is no Martin Luther King, though he thinks he is, to me, he is a black George Bush, arrogant, stubborn, acts like he should be anointed, he may be a tad smarter, but not much, they even look alike! I don;t care if the Replicans put up Porky Pig as candidate, he would beat Obama when people really start seeing what he is and stands for, who for vp, Al Sharpton?
