REPUBLICAN HYPOCRITES FAIL IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO FORCE CONGRESS TO CONDEMN PETE STARK

>

In another blatant maneuver to get the nation's eye off the ball, Republican obstructionists in the House forced a vote on condemning California Congressman Pete Stark. Aside from being a colossal waste of Congress' time, this blatant show of Republican partisan hypocrisy was an opportunity for Americans to see the minority party at its sickest and most pathetic. Not a single Republican voted for the motion to table this embarrassing resolution. The motion to table (kill) John Boehner's attempt to bring further disrepute to Congress passed 196-173.

You might be interested in knowing that 5 Democrats voted with the Republicans on condemning Rep Stark and another 8-- mostly reflexive reactionaries-- voted "Present," refusing to come to Stark's defense. You can probably guess the names of the disgraceful 13 Democrats. But just in case... the 5 who voted-- as they so often do-- with the GOP:

Jason Altmire (PA), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list
Chris Carney (PA), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list
Joe Donnelly (IN), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list
Brad Ellsworth (IN), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list
Heath Shuler (NC), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list

The 5 worst freshmen, none of whom have earned support from Democrats for re-election, these are the guys who consistently support the Bush Regime agenda inside the Democratic caucus. The 8 who insultingly voted "present," are 6 Bush-Dems and two progressives (Dave Loebsack of Iowa and Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri) who probably had their own crazy reasons for their bizarre votes, although in the context of their entire records should just get a role of the eyes and a pass on this. The other 6 are:

Dan Boren (OK)
Lincoln Davis (TN)
Baron Hill (IN)
Tim Mahoney (FL), still not kicked off the DCCC Front Line list
Charlie Melancon (LA)
Dennis Moore (KS)

After the censure resolution was defeated, Congressman Stark made a dignified apology to those who were offended by his remarks and asked the House to get back to the serious busienss of getting S-CHIP approved (Thanks to TPM for the clip.)

UPDATE FROM JANE

A Firedoglake reader called Stark's office to complain about the apology. "The person answering the phone told me that Stark had no choice;  Stark was told before the vote was taken that should he not apologize, the vote to censure would pass.  According to his office, that is the only reason he apologized." Anyone want to guess who forced one of the best congressmen in America to humiliate himself and put himself on a level with someone like Mean Jean Schmidt? Was in Rahm? Hoyer? Madam Off the Table? I may have just seen a hint. CongressDaily: "Majority Leader Hoyer today said Stark's apology was 'appropriate.'"

NOT A DEMOCRAT SPINE IN THE ENTIRE BUILDING.

WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED?

NOT A PENNY FROM ME TO ANY DEMOCRAT UNTIL IMPEACHMENT, WAR CRIMES TRIALS, AND ENDING OF ALL FUNDING OF THE WAR EXCEPT TO RETURN MY BROTHERS IN ARMS TO HOME.

Well, I just wish he would have said he wasn't apologizing for pointing out the difference in priorities between the Republicans and the Democrats. Heck, I wish he hadn't apologized at all.
But I smell the hand of Pelosi and Hoyer in this. I'm more upset at the handful of Democrats who actually voted with Boehner's failed attempt at a 'censure". Gee, did Boehner ever get censured for saying 4,000 dead AMericans (to date) and $500 billion (to date) is "a small price to pay"? Or, last decade, for having been caught red-handed on the House floor handing out checks from the tobacco lobby? Nah. Democrats are cowards, Republicans are just plain vile.

But if you people prefer having John Boehner himself running the House next time, one of the most morally despicable politicrats in Washington, just stay home on election day.

Bush is just like John Larroquette's character in Stripes. Busy playing with toy soldiers and toy tanks in Oval Office.
I'm so tired of the Dems complete lack of spine that I'm going to cancel my donations to the DNC until they grow one.

I will stay home on election day, atleast with the Republicans you know where they stand on the issues. Democrats are not supposed to be PRO-WAR. We put them incharge and since Jan 7th 2007 they have helped kill over 800 American Troops and thousands of Iraqi's.

If Democrats nominate Senators Clinton, Edwards, Biden, or Dodd, I definitly will stay home. When it came to the most important vote of their lives they voted wrong and it cost lives. And Obama, you may not have voted for the invasion, but you sure have voted to fund it.

Pathetic!!!

Hey, consider this. The Bush Admin. has no honor, or integrity left. They are very much the same people they were in 2000.
They have been illegally tapping all electronic nessaging, whether e-mails, or VOIP, or voice, or whatever. And we kow they are ruthless. The admin. had the services of one of the lowest human beings to discredit our species, KKKarl Rove. SO what's the possibility that KKKarl, and other Bush minions, have engaged in political spying on their adversaries, their potential adversaries, and a bunch of influential people to boot. When you've got access to things people think or expect to be private, you then have a way to control those people, by threatening disclosure. How many of us could stand unbent in that gale? And yet, this is what we have to do, if we are to save our country from the lunacy engulfing us. I don't know if it is too late, but the sky is dark and ominous, and if we are to endure, we'd better find some real good armour. Fortify our bastions, and keep our powder dry.
Whatever happens in the months and years ahead, we have to rid ourselves of the neo-conservatives, or they will certainly embroil us in a new world war. After all, we are much better at making world war than we are at making world peace.
Bush has been to our nation as fire has been to San Diego, or water to New Orleans. So much damage, in so little time. The repairs will be going on for generations.

This was one Democratic congress person that I was proud of - I sure wish he had not apologized. Everything he said was true. I am a poor Black 61 year from the Racist state of Tennessee and feel the same about Your president. He doesn't like Black people and what Stark and Kanye West is true. Kanye hasn't apologized yet.

I am so glad he apologized. For a moment there I was afraid that a Democrat had grown a pair! Thanks for bringing me back to reality.

A life-long Dem.

This just pissed me off today so bad Howie. I put a support note at Stark's congressional contact page, and a "Shame on you" note at Pelosi's.

Oy.

Nader was right. There really is no difference between a Democrat and a Republican. The best thing that ever happened to Gore was losing the election. If he had won he would have been forced to the right by the crazy nuts who work in D.C. and invaded the Middle East country of ? first.

Let the DCCC. Call the Republicans for Contributions that who they represent anyway.

Pelosi, Hoyer and Emmanuel are nothing but low life scum sucking blackmailers by forcing Pete Stark to apologize or get censured. It's time to withhold all funding and other support from any Democratic candidates or organizations except for real progressive candidates.

I don't remember Bush apologizing for his "hillarious" skid, showed during a corresponsal's dinner. You might remember, he looked for WMD's under his desk, making comments about "They have to be here somewhere". People were dying in this war, and he was making fun for not finding weapons.
Did Democrats asked for an apology? Of course not.

Finally, somebody speaks up about the sociopathic president and then is forced to back down by elitist democrats who are as wealthy(Pelosi)as the republicans and one way or another really don't want change as they are all getting rich under Bush Cheney. If only there could be an attack like the world trade center attack only instead of on innocent lives make it on the congress during the state of the union address and whack them all and then we can start fresh!
