DO GAYS AND LESBIANS CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY TOO?
>
I never could understand why someone would want to be in the military. Just the idea of giving up my privacy and the ability to think for myself never seemed all that appealing. But I learned early on that other people didn't think about it the same way I did. It's like marriage. I don't get that one either. But some people seem to like it. And they should have the right to do it if they want to. And, of course, that includes gay people. But the same screwed up narrow-minded southern mentality that craves to discriminate against people based on something, anything has demonized gays the same way they demonized Blacks and immigrants.
You may know about the Lift the Ban movement Brave New Films is working on. There's a serious and important 2 minute film at that link. It tells the story of "a recruiter's dream" who was kicked out of the Navy because he's gay. Really good little movie.
This morning Robert Greenwald took a different approach, a really funny one in a brand new clip he just released. Check it out:
It's time to change the law so gay men and women-- like Mitch McConnell-- can serve openly in the military.
