Al Kamen offers a Twilight Zone-ish report on a D.C. block that seems to be sucking up Republican congressmembers like the Bermuda Triangle

>

Why, for all we know, you could be putting yourself at risk just by reading the following report, the lead item in today's "In the Loop" column in the Washington Post. Just to be clear about this, DWT specifically disclaims any responsibility. Read on at your own risk.

Democrats, Beware the Curse of D Street

Incoming Democrats: Alert! Do not, repeat, not, buy a home on the 100 block of D Street SE on Capitol Hill. It may be jinxed.

How else to explain how this solidly Republican enclave--once home to as many as six GOP House members--is no more? A few weeks ago, a "for sale" sign went up at the townhouse belonging to Porter Goss, a former House member from Florida who moved over to the CIA a couple of years ago. Then Rep. Mark Foley felt obliged to quit before the election and his district fell to the Democrats.

Rep. Nancy L. Johnson (Conn.) lost on Nov. 7. Ditto her next-door neighbor, Rep. E. Clay Shaw Jr. (Fla.). Two doors down, Rep. Chris Chocola (Ind.) met a similar fate. And across the street Rep. Jim Ryun (Kan.) lost his race.

Painters were spotted Friday touching up Chocola's place in preparation for an open house yesterday.

Democrats who insist on buying one of these fine homes--even before local and federal health officials finish investigating whether these homes have "loser building" syndrome--at least should lowball.

Talk about mean streets.

As an atheist, this might seem "out-of-character", but I think a little "exorism" could be in order.

That, a little feng-shui and new carpets should do the trick...

SPECIAL NOTE TO RAHMISH BOYS TIM MAHONEY AND HEATH SHULER

I've known Ken a very long time and I can tell you that he spends entirely too much time dreaming up conspiracy theories and watching the SciFi network. Do not, under any circumstances, let either Ken or that kook Kamen deter you from buying a lovely home in the 100 block of D Street SE. In fact, with so many nice places available, I bet you can get a bargain-- particularly since people from the other side of the aisle who think exactly the way you do have helped lower housing prices so substantially. And remember, you know what they say about people like Foley: good interior decoratorness is in the genes. Go for it, Mahoney. You and Rahm should be dancing on Foley's political grave, at least for the next two years; you two earned it.

DWT,
I think Al has been reading the blogosphere too much. TPM had a story about this up last week. Don't diss Heath Shuler though, on economic issues, he is a populist. Right now, in the House, the stand on economic issues is more important. We have the Senate, so no more Alito's for at least two years.

LOL ....
It is cursed. The value of those homes! It's almost like a government auction! LOL ... or something. A fumigation sale? Buyers market on row D! Sellers beware! Don't give it away. It has value. maybe.
