Quote of the day: For serious reflection on 9/11, we direct you to yesterday's QOTD. Today we look forward with our very own "master of disaster"

>

"I have witnessed serious miscommunications between government and industry executives that proved to be life-threatening to citizens of this great country. We offer outstanding market-based measures for 'all-hazards' resiliency to natural and man-made disasters while enhancing executive decision-making and regulatory compliance."
--former FEMA Director Michael "Heckuva Job, Brownie" Brown, in the press release announcing a new consulting firm, Resilient Corp., of which he is "director of emergency and disaster preparedness" (hey, do you think we make this stuff up?)

Okay, it wouldn't be beyond us to make stuff up, but this item is apparently legit. It comes to us courtesy of Al Kamen's "In the Loop" column in the Washington Post. (Welcome back from vacation, Al!)

Al adds this comment: "Not sure if that last sentence is supposed to mean anything. Some might say Brown has done more than just 'witness' disasters."

[Note: Some observers may complain that it's unfair of us to refuse to allow Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to crash QOTD by mouthing mindless gibberish and yet to be welcoming Heckuva Job Brownie here with open arms. Point taken, but have you ever caught us claiming that life is fair?]

Well... it is 9/11 and since you've mentioned two authors of disasters (only one of whom, admittedly, was actually responsible for allowing 9/11 to have happened, I thought I'd offer a quote from an old friend of mine: Kevin. He sent me this e-mail today.

We all know what happened 5 years ago today. Also worth remembering is what happened 100 years ago today:

On September 11, 1906, Mohandas K. Gandhi launched the modern nonviolence movement. On that day, one century ago, a gathering of 3,000 Indians in Johannesburg, South Africa, was challenged by Gandhi's call for Satyagraha, or "the force that is born of truth and love." His message of "non-cooperation" with an oppressive law, the Asiatic Law Amendment Ordinance, has inspired countless civil disobedience actions for justice and peace in our time.
