HOW BADLY WILL THE PHOTOS OF NEY IN PRISON STRIPES HURT HIS CO-CONSPIRATORS STILL TRYING TO MAKE BELIEVE THEY ARE INNOCENT?

>

OK, let me get this straight. Republican Congressman Bob Ney admits to taking bribes-- including from a shady Syrian-- and, although the Republicans have been able to force him to withdraw from his re-election bid, he still refuses to resign from the House-- and neither Boehner nor Hastert has either the will, the power or the inclination to force him to.

The Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party, a two-faced hack named Robert Bennett, is eager for Ney to disappear from public view asap. No, not just because the toupee is so embarrassing but because whenever someone sees or hears "Ney," they are reminded that the Republican Party of Ohio is one of the most corrupt institutions in the entire United States. Bennett, a longtime Ney supporter (though not yet named as a co-conspirator in any of Ney's criminal activities) has demanded that Ney "resign immediately and begin paying the price for his arrogance and greed... He let his state and his country down, and his apology rings hollow in the context of the many months he spent denying his corrupt behavior."

Meanwhile Ney's handpicked replacement, Petunia Padgett, has refused to call for her political benefactor and mentor to resign. Misplaced loyalty to the GOP crime syndicate instead of leadership or loyalty to the citizens of OH-18! Will these Republicans never learn? Other Ohio Republicans with records of shifting definitions of ethical behavior, who are most likely to be hurt by the Ney scandals, include Mean Jean Schmidt, Deborah Pryce, Ralph Regula and Pat Tiberi. And it is widely believed that 3 open seats will be won by Democrats, at least in part because of the pervasive corruption of the Ohio GOP: Charlie Wilson (OH-06), Betty Sutton (OH-13) and, obviously Zack Space in the Ney/Padgett district (OH-18).

I suspect the Dems will pick up much of what they need to take the House in Ohio alone. Don't you know the voters of Ohio are pissed. Their state became the new Florida. Ken Blackwell proves to be the most corrupt politician in decades and several elected and appointed officials either under investigation, indicted or convicted. It's truly spectacular the scope of corruption in that state.

I think the R's are toast in Ohio.

I read an article online about Ney this morning, I think it was on Yahoo, and the interesting thing is that the article didn't connect the dots on the fact that this is a Republican scandal. They mentioned Abramoff and others in Congress but didn't put the whole and very simple pieces together.

Can you imagine if this was a bunch of Democrats who were under investigation? Yeah, you would know it involved Democrats because the media would be reminding you every 30 seconds about it.

Boy, do I agree, Scott. And in Ney's case it's a DOUBLE Republican scandal--the whorehousing of the House and the total total saturation of the Ohio state party in corruption, both of which Howie has covered so extensively here.

Ignore EITHER of those corruption "systems," and you've missed the story of Bob Ney. Ignore BOTH, and you've got . . . well, business as usual with our mainstream media.

Ken
