AND WHY EXACTLY HASN'T LIEBERMAN MADE IT OFFICIAL AND JOINED THE GOP?  LIKE ZELL MILLER, HE'S MORE USEFUL TO HIS REPUBLICAN PATRONS AS A FAKE DEM

>

You may have noticed that I try to never forget to refer to Lieberman as "George Bush's and Ann Coulter's favorite Democrat, Joe Lieberman." It's important for Connecticut primary voters to remember that next Tuesday and to always keep in mind that there have been a lot of Republicans behind Joe Lieberman for a very long time-- and for good reason. Lieberman has always supported very substantial aspects of the Republican agenda. He's a narrow-minded practitioner of hypocrisy and demagoguery and... well, Joe Lieberman doesn't have a $10 million dollar war chest deployed against Ned Lamont because he's been collecting lots of $20 campaign contributions from individual constituents. Even as he was accusing Lamont of getting 70% of his financing from out of state sources (which was true, lots and lots and lots of individual Democratic donors who want nothing but good government in Washington), Lieberman was exposed as accepting more than 80% from outside of Connecticut and almost all of it from powerful corporations and business interests looking for special access to taxpayer dollars.

From his earliest days in the U.S. Senate Lieberman has been in cahoots with right wing Republicans like Lynne Cheney, Bill Bennett, Jack Kemp, Bill Buckley... even Strom Thurmond. A few days ago author Paul Rogat Loeb took Lieberman to ask on DFA's Blog For America for his cynical relationship to loyalty. "His prime loyalty has always been to himself, from the first time he defeated moderate Republican Lowell Weickert with money from William F. Buckley and from rightwing Cuban exiles. Of course, Lieberman's been looking more and more like a Bush-Cheney Republican as he defends one after another of the administration's positions. There's no clean solution to their disaster in Iraq. But while we can argue different approaches for withdrawal, Lieberman not only backed the war initially, but also continues to give Bush political cover on it, denying the magnitude of the disaster and attacking the patriotism and judgment of any who'd question our occupation."

Lieberman has always seemed most at home on TV with right wing propagandists like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Brit Hume. He makes them, and all Republicans and neo-Cons, think they are bi-partisan and he's offered the whole dastardly crew cover for years. All the GOP monstrosities too thick to realize that their kiss-of-death endorsements would alienate Democratic primary voters have hopped aboard the Holy Joe bandwagon to Hell: Bill Kristol, Jeff Gannon, Tom DeLay, Ann Coulter of course. Even after their public make-out session, Rove warned Bush not to let any journalists trick him into admitting Lieberman is his man. Michelle Malkin, the most pathetic and feeble-minded of the Far Right blogosphere was stupider than Rove and has made no attempt to hide her admiration for Holy Joe. Nor have David Horowitz and the shockingly... confused Andrew Sullivan. My fave today, though was when news broke about how the Young Republicans are flooding into Connecticut to work to try to salvage Lieberman's floundering campaign.

You think I'm exaggerating? Watch it on TV:

5 AM UPDATE: NOW POLL LOOKS BAD FOR HOLY JOE

Although Joe Lieberman is fighting back viciously by hiring several thousand paid "supporters" to "work" (i.e., vote) for him on election day (not to mention bringing in loads of Young Republicans from up and down the East Coast), the brand new Quinnipiac Poll just came out and shows that Democrats in Connecticut have finally gotten to know who and what he is and they have definitively turned away from their senator of 18 years. The headline: "Lamont Leads Lieberman 54-41."

With a mere 5% of Democrats undecided only cheating can deliver the primary to Holy Joe now. And, like all Republicans, that's one thing he's good at. With favorable ratings an abysmal 37%, Connecticut Democrats have had it with their disgraceful version of Zell Miller and his surreptitious GOP agenda. Even among self-described "moderates/conservatives," Lieberman only leads 49%-45%, while among liberals he gets 31% (opposed to Ned's 66%). Men, in particular, have been turned off to Lieberman. Only 40% of men say they're voting for Holy Joe.

And it should surprise no one that 94% cite Lieberman's support for the Iraq war as a main reason they are voting for Ned. 2% of Lieberman's supporter cite Bill Clinton's endorsement as their main reason for supporting him and 38% of people say they are voting for Ned say that Lieberman's announcement that he would run as an "independent" in he loses the Democratic Primary Tuesday was either the main reason or "a factor" for their decision to vote against Holy Joe.

UPDATE'S ARE FLYING: TOM DELAY AND JOE LIEBERMAN... NOT A GAY MARRIAGE... BUT CERTAINLY ALLIES

John Amato over at Crooks and Liars isn't just espousing a theory. He's got it on video.

Jeez, 54%-41%? And how many months ago was it that not a soul had ever heard of Ned Lamont?

54%-41%?

By the way, I think it's very unfair to assume that Holy Joe and The Hammer can't get married. I think if the kids really love each other and are really committed to the institution of marriage, well, I say God bless 'em.

How awesome will it be to see Holy Joe... go. My only regret is that living in NY, I won't be able to help vote his self righteous ass out of office.
