Quotes of the day: Stephen Colbert celebrates bedrock American values, and Rachel Maddow ponders the Rapture (scheduled for today?)

>

Last night's Colbert Report was the 100th, and so, naturally enough, the word for the show's most reliable segment, "The Word," was: me. By way of background/justification, the bow-tied Stephen (he confirmed that yes, he tied the tie himself) appealed to the deepest American values:

"Self-aggrandizement is an American tradition."

(The segment concluded with the graphic: "The me shall inherit the earth.")

Then this morning Rachel Maddow, on her Air America Radio show, talked about today being the infamous "6-6-6" (i.e., June 6, 2006) and suggested that she's kind of rooting for the Rapture to happen:

"I for one would be happy to be 'left behind' once those people are gone."

I don't see how you can argue that one either. Happy Rapture, folks.

I just listened to Rachel's podcast. I thought that line about the rapture was great.

Surprisingly the Rapture may have some real upside for Democrats. The electorial map will decidedly change in our favor.

Post Rapture politics look pretty favorable. Well, excluding the plagues and Tribulations.
