Ken, thanks for posting this, and the whole great series of comic writers and performers. Keep em coming.

I was born a Bob & Ray fan... And I was incredibly lucky to see them perform live, just one time (unless you count seeing Ray in a bookstore once), doing this show on Broadway.

It so happened that I went with a friend who has the craziest and most infectious laugh you ever heard. And when he loses it, he really loses it.

He lost it.

It was during this very routine, the Barry Campbell interview, right when Ray is talking about stumbling across the stage at the "Tender T-Bone" premiere. I believe the exact moment was when Ray intoned the words "scattuh rug."

Something about this sent my friend Michael over the edge, into a fit of hysterical shrieking laughter, so loony that people in the audience started laughed at his laughing.

We happened to be sitting in the front row of the balcony, right in the middle, totally conspicuous. Not only did people in the balcony look in our direction — people in the orchestra turned around and looked up. And Bob and Ray stopped talking, turned our way, and stared too. As you would expect, they even stared funny.

Of couse, this made Michael go off even more than before, howling, braying, gasping for air, generally plotzing.

Sitting next to him, it seemed to go on forever. But at long last he finally caught his breath... the audience calmed down... Bob and Ray stopped giving him the eye... and they went on with the scene.

Of course Bob and Ray kept on being hilarious — so I kept expecting Michael to go off again at any time. Fortunately, he was able to control himself for the rest of the show. More likely, he was just too bushed.

What a great story, Woid! I'll bet even Bob and Ray remembered that performance.

Cheers,
Ken
