God Is Smiting The Trumpists

New addition: America's internal enemy: Ron Johnson (R-WI)

Donald's from Queens. His family also did a great deal of business in Brooklyn. And he lived in Manhattan and made a name for himself there. The people in those 3 boroughs of New York City have known him-- and well well-- long before the fools in Wyoming, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Missouri who, along with Putin, made him president had ever heard of him. In 2016, Trump didn't even win the Republican primary in Manhattan, where he came in second to John Kasich! As for the general election, Trump's share of the vote in the 3 places that know him best:
Manhattan- 10.0%
Queens- 22.1%
Brooklyn- 17.9% (much of that support from Russian immigrants of extremely dubious loyalty)
Most any New Yorker could have told you what conservative Canadian David Frum told his readers at The Atlantic yesterday: Donald should never have been allowed anywhere near any public office. "What," he asked, "did you expect?" I captured this screen shot from political analyst Rachel Bitecofer last spring, early in the pandemic.

Saturday, Frum wrote that "There is a great deal you have every right to expect at this moment of crisis, and no reason at all to believe that Donald Trump or his White House will provide it. You cannot expect this White House to tell the truth about Trump’s health... You cannot expect the White House to exhibit any regard for the health of others. The president knowingly exposed his wife, his adult children, his staff, his donors, and his supporters in the Cleveland debate hall. He refused and forbade the most basic safety precautions in the close quarters of the West Wing and on Air Force One, except for testing, which was intended to protect him personally. On Tuesday, Trump was on the debate stage mocking former Vice President Joe Biden for wearing face masks; as the positive tests came in, he did not bother to inform Biden or his team that Trump had exposed him to the coronavirus. Until we know the date of Trump’s last negative COVID-19 test, we can only guess at the number of people he exposed. By sticking to an aggressive travel schedule with in-person gatherings while eschewing even minimal safeguards, Trump has carried the risk of disease across the country."

If Trump-- who is old and obese-- survives this ordeal-- and I bet nearly half the country hopes he doesn't-- he won't learn anything-- at least nothing positive-- from it. As Frum put it, "You cannot expect Trump to gain any wisdom, empathy, or compassion for others. Throughout the pandemic, Trump has disdained the hardships suffered by sick and dying Americans, by their families and neighbors, by those who have lost jobs and homes. When NBC’s Peter Alexander asked Trump on March 20 what the president would say to Americans feeling fear because of the disease, he upbraided Alexander: 'I’d say you are a terrible reporter.' When Republican Senator Mitt Romney self-isolated because he had been exposed to COVID-19 by the negligent selfishness of Senator Rand Paul, Trump sarcastically said to reporters, 'Oh, that’s too bad.' It’s a consistent pattern for Trump; on October 2, 2016, four years ago to the day of Trump’s COVID-positive acknowledgment, Trump cruelly pantomimed onstage Hillary Clinton’s campaign-season bout of pneumonia. What you can expect is a lot of victimhood and self-pity. Trump and those around him have always demanded for themselves the decencies that they refuse others. They will get them, too. Trump’s opponents will express concern and good wishes-- and if they do not, Trump’s allies will complain that those opponents are allowing politics to overwhelm human feeling. It was only three days ago that Trump on a debate stage dismissed Biden’s dead son, Beau, and falsely claimed that Biden’s surviving son, Hunter, had been dishonorably discharged from the military. The next day, Trump’s eldest son, Donald Jr., appeared on Glenn Beck’s show to describe Hunter as a 'crackhead.' Now, though, we will hear a lot about how people are not being respectful enough to a president in his time of illness."

Trump has all his life posed a moral puzzle: What is due in the way of kindness and sympathy to people who have no kindness and sympathy for anyone else? Should we repay horrifying cruelty in equal measure? Then we reduce ourselves to their level. But if we return indecency with the decency due any other person in need, don’t we encourage appalling behavior? Don’t we prove to them that they belong to some unique bracket of humanity, entitled to kick others when they are writhing on the floor, and then to claim mercy when their own crimes and cruelties cast them upon the floor themselves?

Americans are dead who might have been alive if Trump had met the challenge of COVID-19 with care and responsibility-- or if somebody else, literally almost anybody else, had been president instead. Millions are out of work, in danger of losing their homes, living in fear. Tens of millions of young people have suffered disruption to their education, which will follow them through life. The pandemic was not Trump’s fault, but at every turn, he made things worse than they had to be-- because at every turn, he cared only for himself, never for the country. And now he will care only for himself again.

Trump should never have been allowed anywhere near any public office. Wish him well, but recognize that his deformed spirit will never be well-- and that nothing can be well for the country under his leadership.

In 1918 President Woodrow Wilson downplayed the Spanish Flu pandemic & then he got sick fast forward to 2020 President Trump & the GOP downplayed the Coronavirus pandemic & now he & 14 other GOP’ers have the virus they’re so paranoid & filled with false doubt.

and we know a lot more today about pathogens, transmission and SHOULD have known the simple interdiction methods to employ -- Dr. Fauci and so many others even told us!

Hopefully they'll all die, but since there is no god, they won't.

But blaming only trump is misguided. people knew what to do and what not to do. All who refuse, like trump, got it because they are fucking morons.

all who they gave it to should have known better than to let those fucking unmasked morons anywhere near themselves.

And never forget that david frum has been a leading pundit during the constant swirling of the bowl in this shithole since Reagan. To him, trump may be that 'bridge too far', but he helped pave the road to that bridge.

Wish him well? I wish him, and every one of the people around him (including the 3 Republican senators with Covid) dead. Just because we can't put names on exactly the people who have died because of their cruelty and incompetence doesn't mean they don't number in the tens of thousands.

Maybe I won't cheer out loud about this, but inside I'm raucous!

I honestly don't understand anybody on the left wanting Trump dead! I don't want him to die; that would be a disaster, not justice, poetic or otherwise.

I want him to live. I want him to live to see himself stripped of his illegal wealth and indicted for his many crimes.

I want him dragged out of the White House complaining and screaming "fraud!" to his sycophantic base who watch the proceedings in helpless rage. I want him to understand that he is now to face the justice he's denied others all these many years.

I want him to squeal to the S.Ct. about how unfair it is that Mike Pence's last minute pardon didn't actually apply under the Constitution to offenses under state law, nor will it shield him from civil liability for victims of his many crimes -- and see those justices he appointed rule against him in a final back-of-the-hand gesture of disloyalty; now they have a lifetime appointment. They have no more need of Trump. He's lost power and is facing indictment. Why should they save him now at the cost of their own reputations? A defeated loser?

His many victims are all waiting until he is safely out of power and powerless to prevent them from suing him with great tenacity. How about the victims of his illegal deportation orders? Some of those wrongfully deported even being legally U.S. citizens and the protection of U.S. laws.

Do they have a cause of action against Trump for their pain and suffering, if they could prove that his conduct was actually criminal and not sanctioned by any law whatsoever?

So many things to discover. How can any of you deprive us of the chance to go through it all.

Schadenfreude baby, is a serous thing. Some people have been waiting a long time for this evil man to finally break in pieces and fall to the ground.

He cannot die. He has so much to atone for. So much realization to endure. All his many victims need the chance to stand in the dock and accuse him to their face of his crimes. We cannot be deprived of that day.

Cugel - you make a lot of sense to me, someone who has wished for tRump to get covid and die. Maybe your way is the best way, and I will hope tRump gets all he deserves and more.

So this begs the question: Can Trump kill himself on 5th avenue and not lose a single vote?

So, Cugel, just WHO is going to cause Trump "to live to see himself stripped of his illegal wealth and indicted for his many crimes"? The DEMOCRATS?? The ones who had a list of crimes that Mueller handed them and did nothing with??? The ones whose own House Committees came up with a longer list of charges which Pelo$i pared down to just a couple of lame ones which would fit inside an empty premium ice cream carton????

You have so many fantasies which don't match current realities that I marvel you can't see through at least some of them. Trump's MAGAt Mulisha can't wait to start pumping lead into people they hate, and Trump being dragged out of the White House complaining and screaming "fraud!" is exactly the trigger which will fire them off.

The Constitution IS just a piece of paper when the nation which was created under it no longer follows the rule of law. SCOTUS will not stand up to defend it, either. They were pushed onto the bench by radical reactionaries who intend to have Justice respelled as "Just Us" in order to takes rights away from the rest of us.

It doesn't matter how many people are waiting to sue Trump when he's stuffed the benches with radical reactionaries with McConnell's assistance. They will rule that no one will have "standing" to ever sue Trump the President For Life!

"How can any of you deprive us of the chance to go through it all" you whine.

Because it is considered very bad form for adults to allow juveniles to harm themselves. What you propose would take the country down with you.

There is ZERO chance that the ballots will be handled in a fair and impartial manner. Trump will declare himself the winner, and in at least 26 states has the Party tools in place to help him make that happen.

The military refuses to declare their intentions when dozens of retired officers have called upon General Milley to act. We already know from Portland, Seattle, Rochester, and Kenosha where the cops stand. And the cops will be backing the Boogaloo Bois to ensure that no mean lefties fight back once they are unleashed.

The best way out of this is for COVID to take that lard ass buffoon to Eternity. The sooner the better.

@Cugel, it isn't worth the risk of Trump staying in power even if it's just 1%. Nobody is going to want to set the precedent of prosecuting a former President. He will skate if he lives and continue to tweet to his base that the Deep State and the media is trying to get him. Better than Covid takes him out and he is revealed to be a bankrupt fraud when they try to settle his estate.
