Trump Just Started A War Today, Didn't He? And By Assassinating His Old Business Partner

>

No one’s going to argue that the heads of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, was a bad man. At one time he and Trump were in business together, laundering money through a Trump Tower in Baku, Azerbaijan. The CIA made then-candidate Trump end that shady business. But even without the Trump connection, Soleimani was still a bad guy-- a real bad guy. Trump had him assassinated-- without congressional approval-- today. Trump also had Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis killed early on Friday in an air strike on their convoy at Baghdad airport. Ahmed al-Assadi, a spokesman for Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces umbrella grouping of Iran-backed militias, announced that “The American and Israeli enemy is responsible for killing the mujahideen Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani.” Here’s how the right-wing media reported the assassinations:

Even as big a Trump ass-licker as Tucker Carlson noted that there was no congressional debate “but America appears to be lumbering toward a new Middle East war. Nd we have to say that it’s one that official Washington has wanted for decades. For example, disgraced former national security advisor John Bolton has made it his life’s mission to start a war with Iran. And tonight Bolton may be finally getting his wish. Should you be happy about that, that’s the question. Well, the last time we took John Bolton’s advice in the region, Iran became far more powerful than it was before we took John Bolton’s advice.” He then went on to explain why the invasion from the southern border is worse than “the Persian menace.”

This crisis is entirely of Trumpanzee’s making. From the very start, he surrounded himself with hardline war-mongers who have been driving him towards war since the first week he occupied the White House. Remember, he foolishly walked away from a historic diplomatic agreement with Iran and put the U.S. on an entirely avoidable collision course with the country. The nuts on right-wing twitter are trying to claim that this was bigger than the killing of Osama bin-Laden. I suspect it may be more consequential-- and not in a good way. This was a random selection of tweets from my feed just as I put this up to publish. And Ben Rhodes is right: this is not reality TV. And it is not a game.

Ro Khanna (D-CA) just tweeted that "Any member who voted for the NDAA-- a blank check-- can't now express dismay that Trump may have launched another war in the Middle East. My Amendment, which was stripped, would have cut off funds for any offensive attack against Iran including against officials like Soleimani." So... Democrats who start whining now-- and there will be many-- need to be reminded how they voted on the NDAA. Only 41 Democrats voted NO, including Khanna himself, of course. The others included AOC (NY), Barbara Lee (CA), Rashida Tlaib (MI), Ilhan Omar (MN), Jamie Raskin (MD), Ayanna Pressely (MA), Pramila Jayapal (WA), Raul Grijalva (AZ), Andy Levin (MI), Joe Neguse (CO), Judy Chu (CA), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Steve Cohen (TN), Tulsi (HI), Bonnie Watson-Coleman (NJ), Jerry Nadler (NY), Chuy Garcia (IL)... So where were all the freshmen the DCCC elected last year? Voting with the GOP, of course. (By the way, there would have been 42 Democrats but Ted Lieu was recuperating in the hospital and unable to cast a vote.) So, of course, this is TRump's fault-- but among his enablers were just 189 House Republicans, but also 188 House Democrats including Pelosi, Hoyer, Bustos, Lipinski, O'Halleran, Wasserman Schultz, Cuellar, Costa, Adam Schiff, who knows more than most just how dangerous Trump is, and Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) who has been all over the news today for endorsing Status Quo Joe.

I begin to question why we are even bothering to hold elections anymore. There is no rule of law, the Congress has no authority since they gave it away decades ago, the Courts are essentially assets of authoritarian corporatism, and We the People are losing what rights we still pretended to have. We can't even be certain that our votes are counted accurately or that the results are honest.

I don't like the remaining options.

Ro lied. His "amendment" would not have meant shit. The supremes already said the fuhrer can redirect allocated funds in any way that amuses him.

Cheney started wars. Pelosi didn't do shit. obamanation murdered many thousands of innocents along with a couple hundred "bad guys" with drones. nobody did shit.
trump kills kids at the border. Pelosi didn't do shit.

this is where this leads. voters and democraps are aghast? you have no right to bitch. If any of these mattered, you've had many election cycles to fix it and you've refused every time.

STFU!

@5:48

"you've had many election cycles to fix it and you've refused every time."

Howzzat again? I voted in November and there were ONLY Republicans and Democrats running to represent my district. I could have taken a pass on voting (I was busy deliberately needling you by voting for worthless Democraps - take THAT!), but guess what? No matter how low turnout may be, whoever gets the most of the few votes cast gets to be a congressperson!

Maybe it's the numbers? Obama murdered thousands, while Cheney and Bush murdered (at least) a million. There are all sorts of moral/ethical exercises in which participants are asked to make a choice between various problematic outcomes - most pick the outcome that creates the lowest number of casualties. But I guess that sort of thing represents the "lesser-of-two-evils" thinking you so roundly reject.

Ted Rall has a new cartoon up at Smirking Chimp. I know you're shadowing him too, so get over there and post a comment! He's probably wondering if you're alright. Have a good weekend in case I don't find time to come over here and (good-naturedly, dammit!) needle you some more.

"Remember the widely popular bumper sticker slogan after Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about his affair with Monica Lewinski? "When Clinton Lied, Nobody Died."
In March 2006, I wrote this editorial: WHEN CLINTON LIED, YUGOSLAVIA DIED"-Gary Swing

Up until the impeachment of Clinton, he never enter the US into a major war. After that he went into Yugoslavia.

Steve? I don't know where you are, but in my state we have many more than just the democrap and Nazi. We can also write in. I do the best I can with what's there and hope the democraps notice that a few of us vote left but NOT democrap.

For locals, the democraps and Nazis are not always all that different with both trying to help the state or locales make it to next FY intact. Being unable to print their own money, it's a different task than at the federal level.

But those that want to go to DC and start raking REAL corporate sugar, I NEVER even consider D nor N. I've never faced the prospect of an AOC or I might give it a little thought. Still, I'd probably not be able to do it even then.

I only reject 'lesser evilism' as a strategy for "better". I lament that it's all we have, viably. I'm not an idiot. I know that until someone with AOC's charm and her and Bernie's chops decides to go independent, it'll always be so. I lament that too. Bernie may have made a go of it in '16, but he took the easy way out. I'm sure the PARTY made a deal with him for the endorsement and all. shows that his principles are not what you all think they are.

For reference, I use the Whigs. They were not helpful at a time of similar existential threat level, and voters put them to bed in fairly short order. But the new party had Lincoln. We need that kind of leader... and none is emerging.

needle all you want. I'm fine with that. Don't much care for the guy who only has "GFY" to say though.

GooFY hasn't been evident for a while now. Maybe the Party fired him because he wasn't effective?
