Anyone Thinking About Moving To France 'Til Trump Is Impeached?

One of my friends drives for Uber and because he drives his mom's Beamer, he's an Uber-Premium driver. He says he gets a lot of nice and interesting customers. He mentioned a couple he picked up a few days ago who were celebrating because they had just been approved for Japanese citizenship. They had to invest $5,000,000 in Japan to get the citizenship and they'll have to give up their U.S. citizenship. They mentioned they mostly just wanted to get their money out of the U.S. because they fear Trump. I would have liked to have talked to them to find out more.

After Trump announced he was pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord, French President Emmanuel Macron invited American scientists to come work in Paris. Canada has also been very encouraging to skilled workers. France has since put up an official Make Our Planet Great Again website which encourages American teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs, etc to relocate to France. I started filling out their form and got this page:
Your new homeland.

With a number of Nobel Prizes and Fields medals, leading research universities, top ranked research bodies (CNRS #1 Nature Index worldwide, CEA #2 Thomson Reuters Innovation, etc.), top-level research infrastructure and laboratories as well as an effervescent startup ecosystem, France is a home for excellence in science and innovation.

France is a driving force of science and technology in Europe, with a strong involvement in the H2020 program.

France‘s laboratories are particularly active and among the world leaders in the previously mentioned scientific domains: non-exhaustive examples include a leading position in climate modeling intercomparison exercises, earth observation as part of the ESA, or in advanced solar photovoltaics and breakthrough energy storage solutions.

France is at the forefront of future innovation and industry, notably green tech and green finance that will keep driving growth and meet the targets of the Paris Agreement.

More than ever, France enjoys unique structural strengths that make it one of the most competitive countries in Europe for science and innovation: 2nd European economy, most dynamic European country in terms of demography, a productive, well-educated and well-trained workforce, most attractive R&D intensity level in Europe, unique central position, high levels of infrastructure, solid financial environment, favorable lifestyle environment, etc.

On top of these structural advantages, researchers and university professors will find a welcoming environment to help them fulfill their goals and reach great scientific achievements.

International researchers and university professors, France is here for you!
And then this page about eligibility and how to apply and get a research grant. Stuff like this: "Senior researcher: Up to 1.5M€ for 4 years grant (salary + 2 working staff + 2 students + working expenses) allowing to develop projects within and benefiting from the hosting laboratory environment."

Yes you can apply for a 4 year all expenses grant that includes a work visa and residency permit. And there's this: "You will be able to stay in France at least for the duration of the grant, and longer if you are granted a permanent position. There is no restriction on your husband / wife working in France. If you have children, note that French public schools are free, and the tuition fees of universities and grandes écoles are very low compared to the American system."

Sunday, Macron's party won an immense first round victory in the French parliamentary elections. The run-off will be next Sunday, June 18. In all 577 members are being chosen. Macron's party En Marche! wound up with 6,390,871 votes (32.32%), followed by the center right Republicans with 3,573,398 (15.77%), the fascist National Front with 2,990,613 (13.20%), Jean-Luc Mélenchon's left-wing La France Insoumise with 2,497,663 (11.02%) and the center left Socialist Party with 1,685,808 votes (7.44%). No other parties broken a million. It looks like Macron's party is on track to win between 415 and 455 seats of the 577-- which would be the biggest parliamentary majority for a single party since World War II.

If this were 20 years ago, I might have a shot. But nobody wants a retired nerd with pre-existing conditions even if I bring a nice (not quite nice enough for Japan) kitty of savings.

Plus, I'd have to stay longer than just until the orange-utang's heart explodes, quits or gets impeached. There are a very long line of fascists and Nazis waiting in line behind him and none of them would be any better. Most would be worse.

Plus, the democraps, should they ever back into another temporary majority, are no better for the bottom 99% than the retarded apes that are in charge now. So they'd have to go away.

So, if some nation would welcome me, I'd be there until all of the above got resolved, which means I'd be there forever. The good news for my new country... I'm not likely to live that much longer.

So far, Canada, Australia and New Zealand say no thanks. France wants scientists and not old retired dudes. UK and Costa Rica are nos also. Next up is Portugal, but I'm told not to get my hopes up.

I've looked around a little. Can you tell? Started in 2010 when it was plain that the democraps would be shit forever.

Just to transcend the rising language flood of vaporous symbolism and magical thought: impeachment is an indictment. It is not conviction nor removal from office.

But, if one had gone to France, awaiting the actual removal of office of His Hairness, why, if it happened, would one then return to the US?

To put it another way, what would one get from Pence that, in any way, would be better than that afforded by His Hairness?

If someone there at DWT would please answer this heretofore carefully avoided issue,
I will spare readers my next installment describing the predicted result of removal from office of His Hairness.

"Started in 2010 when it was plain that the democraps would be shit forever."

I'd drag the timeline on this observation back to the day after Nixon resigned. The Democrats clearly had the power and then sat on their hands and did NOTHING. The protest candidate in 1976 was Jimmy Carter, who while a fine human being was so terrible a president that Reagan was seen as rescuing the nation by too many. I was so fed up I voted for John Anderson and the principle that the two party racket was bad for my nation and needed to end.

The Party has not improved since then. Just think NAFTA and GATT and The Telecommunications Act of 1996, The USA Patriot Act . . . and the "moderate 1985 Reagan Republican" who would run as a liberal to fool Democratic voters into electing him - TWICE! - successfully.

If I hadn't already had the last straw fall on my broken back, the Democratic Party treatment Bernie Sanders received for daring to challenge HER! for the nomination would have been it. The good news for me is that for many others, it has proven to be the last straw.

Now if only Mother Nature wasn't so angry at us . . .

  4. This is all so damned depressing. Trump is consolidating his power at warp speed, just like Hitler did, with McConnell in lock step right behind him. Clearly McConnell is as dangerous, unethical and undemocratic as Trump.

Trump has made it quite clear he demands loyalty above all else - that video yesterday of his Cabinet fawning all over him, including McConnell's wife, was pathetic. It did confirm Comey's testimony though!

    Will Trump fire Mueller?

1:23, I don't disagree with your timeline genesis. I was aware of Nixon's treason to help sway the election and disgusted with LBJ for doing nothing at all. I was also vaguely aware of his "southern strategy, though, after LBJ passed civil and voting rights, he didn't need it. Southern whites were going to vote against Ds anyway.

But I thought that a brilliant BLACK(ish) candidate who could articulate so well, and in a time of so many crises (wars, torture, fisa, patriot, bank fraud, foreclosures, millions of jobs lost, depression...), would simply HAVE to reverse the misfortunes of as many as he could (having the 60 in the senate and a big house advantage and all).
But when he started nominating his cabinet and hiring his transition team and staff, I realized we'd all been had and he was just a skinnier and melanin enhanced Clinton only worse. The disgusting play-acted performances wrt ACA (rejecting the PO and colluding with the lobbies) sealed it. The democraps are shit, had been for decades, and were never going to ever be the party of FDR again.

It was impossible to imagine how bad things would have to get for the Ds to act like Ds again if they refused to do so after 2008.

They need to be buried like the whigs, know-nothings and bull-mooses.

Until Trump is impeached? Are you out of your [fill in preferred expletive] mind?

Standing right behind Trump and drooling at his chances is Mike Pants, a truly terrifying prospect. A far-too-tightly-wrapped true believer who understands the workings of government from both state and federal perspective. At least with Trump we have an incompetent no-nothing with a set of beliefs matching his knowledge base, namely nothing.

I'll take Trump as the lesser of two evils every time. It's only a matter of time that his constituents (probably not for 2018, but I think pretty clearly by 2020) will get tired of him pissing in their ears and convincing them that it's champagne.

Sorry! Failure to engage internal spell check. I meant to write KNOW-NOTHING.

    It won't happen again. Promise.

From your keyboard to the Black community. They still think Barry walked on water instead of their water-treading heads on his way to a $67M "advance" on a book which will be filled with his lies as his others were. Maybe the Black community FINALLY read King's Mountaintop speech and actually UNDERSTOOD the economic strategy King espoused, since recent polling indicates that the Black voters aren't so in-the-bag for the Democratic Party anymore. The only good news is that they haven't gone to the Dark Orange Side.

I share your hopes, but I'm concerned that His Hairness will stage a coup and prevent anyone from removing him from office. Elections can only happen when the existing government ensures that they can. I don't see Trump allowing it if he stood a good chance of losing, since It's clear he loves the power he commands. I can only hope that there remain enough true patriots in the military to refuse to act against their nation on his behalf.

  9. Sorry, but Macron is just another neolib who is implementing austerity. In three years the French economy will still be hobbled and his approval will be lower than dog crap. Le Pen will become a serious contender on a "told you so" platform. If Melanchon or another left party doesn't get its act together, Le Pen has a damn good chance of winning in 2022.
