Debbie Wasserman Schultz's And Steve Israel's War Against Women

>

I can't say that I agreed with Emanuel Cleaver yesterday when he said its improper for the Democratic Party to rub the Republicans' nose in their war against women. The Republicans should be called out-- and loudly-- for their horrifying, anti-family policies and their patriarchal, even misogynistic, agenda. But is it really the DCCC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz-- who called Republicans "callous and insensitive" this weekend-- who should be doing the calling out?

These two sleazebags don't care any more for the interests of ordinary working women than your garden variety Republican congresscreep does. Israel and Wasserman Schultz are opportunistic careerists who serve the interests of their slimy campaign contributors. If they gave a damn about the Republican War Against Women they keep talking about, would they be recruiting conservative, anti-Choice Democrats who support the same positions as Boehner and Cantor?

The DCCC always-- not sometimes, always-- tries clearing the field in favor of the more conservative contender in Democratic primaries. In Michigan's third CD, we have a perfect example. Trevor Thomas is a grassroots progressive who embodies classic FDR values and principles. His opponent, Steve Pestka, is an anti-Choice zealot who is eager to join the Republican Party's war against women. So, of course, DCCC chair Steve Israel loves him (Pestka). Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm endorsed Thomas, in large part because he is the pro-Choice candidate and because Pestka is the anti-Choice candidate. He's also a self-funding multimillionaire, which trumps ideology in Israel-Wasserman Schultz world.

In western North Carolina we have two races where the DCCC is waging war against women by recruiting conservative anti-Choice fanatics, Blue Dog Hayden Rogers in NC-11, against Cecil Bothwell and primitive religionist Terry Bellamy against Rep. Patsy Keever.
People want to know how anti-Choice Bellamy is. A memo leaked from her campaign explains that in the primary (so only Democrats voting), they'll emphasize that she backs the premise that "women have the right to choose in the case of rape, incest and the mother's health." After the primary, if she's facing off against rabidly anti-Choice misogynistic McHenry... well it'll be Etch-A-Sketch time.

In northeast Pennsylvania there's a hot primary going on right now between two Democrats, a rabidly anti-Choice fanatic incumbent, Blue Dog Tim Holden with a long and repulsive voting record and pro-Choice progressive Matt Cartwright.

And this kind of thing goes on in district after district around the country. The DCCC and the DC Democrats in general are appealing to save our sisters and fight back against the Republican War On Women-- while they beat down progressives like Gary Latanich in Arkansas in favor of bigoted right-winger Clark Hall or while they screw up the campaign against David Rivera by recruiting an anti-Choice candidate so conservative (and so incredibly lame) that he wound up pulling out of the race-- and leaving the Democratic Party. Of course only people as inherently stupid and self-serving as Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Steve Israel wouldn't have guessed in advance that something like this was bound to happen when they recruited the former head of Democrats for Bush!

What is wrong with these people! Wasserman Schultz is again preventing any viable Democrat from running against her GOP crony Ileana Ros-Lehtinen-- in a Democratic district that Obama won. And Israel-- along with his court jesters Allyson Schwartz and Joe Crowley-- are recruiting shovelfuls of hideous anti-Choice candidates (like Indiana's Brendan Muller, Florida's Leonard Bembry, Rob Wallace in Oklahoma and Nick Lampson in Texas) while urging Democratic donors to not give to contributions to Democratic grassroots candidates who are pro-Choice and who will actually do battle against the conservatives (like Crowley himself) who oppose Choice. Maybe it's time to send the DC Dems a message. Maybe it's past time.

You can be sure that every candidate on this ActBlue page is 100% pro-Choice-- which is better than 99% pro-Choice. And they can use help, help the DCCC reserves for their anti-Choice Blue Dogs.

It's just astonishing to me that national Democratic organizations use the scary "Republican War on Women" to raise funds, which they use to bankroll Democrats waging the same goddamn war. It's beyond ridiculous in its cynicism. Serious pro-choice voters pay attention, and we are well aware that conservative Democrats voted with Republicans on odious bills like H.R. 3 and H.R. 358. It's inevitable that this tactic will backfire on the Democratic leadership: by featuring reproductive rights so prominently in their messaging, more and more people will notice the shameless hypocrisy and get disgusted with the party. Of course when that happens they'll just blame it on the dirty hippie bloggers. So, you know, it's all good.

Steve Israel has his own personal war on women. Besides the facts stated within this blog, steve has successfully managed to destroy two marriages via his infidelity and lack of respect for the women that swore eternal love and loyalty to him and him to them. He even managed to show his disrespect for them and to women as a whole by having a love child with a teenage intern that worked for him. Yes, steve israel has his own agenda and his own war on women that is in direct contrast to what we on the blue side deem equality and respectful!
