The Republican Cabal-- Obstructionism

>

The Republican Obstructionists sent out Cheney yesterday to try sabotaging President Obama's programs to change the direction of American foreign policy and to rebuild the middle class. (Apparently Limbaugh was too busy-- or sleeping it off that early on a Sunday morning.) Today White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs responded to Cheney's barrage of misinformation, slurs and outright lies from his sleazy interview with John King on CNN yesterday. Watch Gibbs answering questions on it from the press today:

Forget for a moment that Cheney was the most disliked elected political leader in the history of contemporary American politics and that his job approval rating was barely in double-digits. Instead, let's look at some new polling data on how Americans feel about the GOP obstructionist tactics. In fact, let's not look at how Americans feel about the tactics. We all already know that Americans hold Republican obstructionists in as much contempt as they hold their pals the banksters. Instead, let's look at how rank and file Republican voters feel about the "Just Say No" strategy. Pew just confirmed what Rasmussen found last week: Republican voters don't approve of the Obstructionist strategy of Republican leaders like McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, Ryan, Limbaugh, Kyl... and Cheney.
The approval rating of GOP leaders among Republicans has plummeted 12 points in a month, down from 55% in February to a minority of 43% now. That’s striking.

Not only that, but approval of GOP leaders overall has dropped to 28% overall-- the lowest rating for GOP leaders in 12 years of Pew polling.

In fact, approval of Republican congressional leaders has fallen from 34% in February to 28% currently, the lowest rating for GOP leaders in nearly 14 years of Pew Research surveys.

And Research 2000's new poll found the exact same thing.
Republicans are taking a hard stance against everything President Obama tries to do. It's backfiring in their faces, the same way it backfired when FDR tried cleaning up the Republican economic catastrophe after he was elected in 1932. Republicans back then went on an obstructionist jihad similar to what Boehner and McConnell are leading today and predicted that the minority party always gains seats in the off-year election anyway. Instead, the voters were repulsed by GOP obstructionism and dealt the Republicans a near mortal blow. They lost another 8 incumbents in the Senate as well as an open seat in Maryland and their senator in Wisconsin quit the party and joined the Progressives. That left them with 25 senators. The GOP lost 14 more seats in the House, leaving them with a rump of 103 (to the Democrats' 313). But they still didn't get the message keeping up their unmitigated obstructionism, and in 1936 the voters told them to just get lost. After that election the GOP was reduced to 16 senators and 88 House members. Is that what it will take to get them to start cooperating and work with the president and not against him?

One of the posterboys for Republican obstructionism in the House has been Paul Ryan (R-WI) and yesterday Cheney said he's the future, along with Mark Sanford, Eric Cantor and Rob Portman, of the GOP. Please help Blue America make sure Paul Ryan isn't the future of anything-- except an unemployment line.

I love the irony of your site entitled "Down with Tyranny" as you blast voices of dissent as "Obstructionist". Hypocrisy is thy name.

JSmith.
If the Republicans had their OWN budget plan instead of just OBSTRUCTING the Obama plan I would take your point. Mitch our bitch McConnel has nada, just a covered up general discharge from the army...
