SOME DEMOCRATS REALLY WANT TO END THE WAR. OTHERS ARE PLAYING GAMES... JUST LIKE BUSH

This morning Russ Feingold formally introduced legislation that mandates Bush end the occupation of Iraq by March 31, 2008 and bring our troops home safely. Senator Feingold, often a lonely voice of reason and principle, has been joined by 9 of the best Democrats in the Senate. It's disappointing to see that only one Democrat up for re-election next year, Tom Harkin, feels confident enough to show some leadership and co-sponsor this bill-- although another one, Chris Dodd, is running for president:
* Harry Reid (NV)
* Barbara Boxer (CA)
* Chris Dodd (CT)
* Tom Harkin (IA)
* Ted Kennedy (MA)
* John Kerry (MA)
* Patrick Leahy (VT)
* Bernie Sanders (VT)
* Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)

Interesting list-- mostly senators from New England, the place where they took a stand against slavery and, earlier, against British colonial rule. I'm sorry to not see Obama or Hillary on the list at a time when Americans are begging for leadership-- real leadership, not abdication of leadership that David Broder is advocating in today's Washington Post.

UPDATE: WHERE'S SHERROD?

Ian was askin'
