WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN-- RICKIE LEE HAS SOME THOUGHTS ON CHRIS MATTHEWS, GEORGE BUSH AND OUR BRAVE FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN IN IRAQ

>

A few days ago Rickie Lee Jones shared some thoughts about Joe Lieberman with DWT readers. Last night she sent me a copy of a letter she sent to Chris Matthews and the producers off "Hardball" and when I asked her if I could post it here, she agreed. So... here it is: Rickie Lee Jones tells the disingenuous media whore Chris Matthews what she thinks of his bullshit:

Gentlemen:

I would like to remind you, Chris Matthews, and any one else who might be confused about this issue, that American troops in Iraq (or anywhere else) are not "very loyal" to Mr. Bush, as recently reported by Mr. Matthews. They are loyal to, and dying for, the United States.

Just a reminder to you that, no matter how you try to twist it the other way, Bush is not America,  Bush is not the symbol of America, and no one there is having his leg blown off,  or his throat cut, out of loyalty to Mr. Bush. Mr. Matthews, to suggest that being loyal to Bush is to be loyal to our country, by simply phrasing it in this way (that the troops are loyal to Bush) is an outrage. The people who signed up to fight, signed up to fight for the United States of America, not for Mr. Bush. The flute you blow, is not calling the rats as well as it did five years ago. As far as I know, neither FOX News nor MSNBC have been able to successfully launch that campaign to make President Bush 'Emperor Bush,'  or Caesar, who is a God, I think.  And so, alas, we will have to settle for loyalty to our country, and not to our dictator president. Perhaps a president 'in waiting.' Waiting to be confirmed by popular vote-- which, to my knowledge, never actually occurred,  because, for some odd reason, we were not allowed to count the votes, and were forced by judges to accept a president who may not have even been elected!!! This makes the crime of Iraq a sin. I hope Bush really is a Christian, because it will be a great day when he faces his Lord, and looks him in the eye. I want to be in that number. Yes indeed.

Sincerely,

WEDNESDAY UPDATE: CHRIS MATTHEWS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR SO HE CAN WORK FOR THE GOP DIRECTLY

After Rickie Lee's denunciation of Chris Matthews' outrageous and misleading propaganda role on MSNBC, MediaMatters issued a hard-hitting study of Matthews' unfair practices called "Hardball for the left, softball for the right." In December, 2005 Matthews, a former speechwriter for President Carter, was named to succeed Bill O'Liely as "Misinformer of the Year." He's gotten worse since then. He brags about having voted for Bush and claims Bush belongs on Mount Rushmore. The whole article is very thorough and academic and extremely interesting and worth the read.

Thank you Rickie Lee. There's a campaign to make Tweetie squeak at some of the other blogs. I hope your letter makes him squawk. I will now pull out my favorite Rickie Lee Jones CD for inspiration. Although I would have anyway, because I really that album.

I totally share Ricky Lee's instinctual revulsion for Matthews. I remember really detesting his self-righteous indignation at the time the Far Right was trying to de-rail President Clinton's legislative agenda by impeaching him for having consensual sex with a bimbo. The folks over at The Center For American Progress have a video up of Matthews getting his head caught up John Boehner's butt. If you can't get to the video, here's a transcript:

MATTHEWS: Is she [Hillary Clinton] a socialist?
BOEHNER: Uh, no. I’ve worked with her on a number of issues —
MATTHEWS: Well, on the issue of health care, is she a socialist?
BOEHNER: She would be to the left of most people I know.
MATTHEWS: But not a socialist?
BOEHNER: I wouldn’t go that far.
MATTHEWS: You wouldn’t go that far? What stops you?
BOEHNER: I don’t like labeling of people.
MATTHEWS: You call her a liberal. You called it Hillarycare.
BOEHNER: I don’t want to call her a socialist.
MATTHEWS: Could she carry Ohio in the general?
BOEHNER: I don’t think so.
MATTHEWS: Who could beat her?
BOEHNER: Anybody.
MATTHEWS: Anybody. strong words. We’ll be right back with House Majority Leader John Boehner. You can see this man’s greatness.
