MERV GRIFFIN HAS GONE ON TO THE GREAT GAME SHOW IN THE SKY
>

As if Nancy Reagan hasn't been through enough! Now one of her best friends the famously closeted Merv Griffin is no longer. Also mourning are closeted gay Republicans everywhere who benefited from his political largesse. Merv was a generous fan of congressional gay closet queen David Dreier. He had already given $20,000 to the bankrupt California Republican Party in 2007 when God said, "Enough!" The fabulously wealthy 82 year old former game show host died of prostate cancer at age 82.
Before he became a game show host and a billionaire Republican he was a singer and had a minor hit with “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts” (1950). I was surprised to look over this obituaries and see no mention of the fact he was gay or of any of the palimony suits or sexual harassment suits against him. I guess that stuff is still too crude to mention in print.
NY TIMES CALLS A SPADE A SPADE
Rolling Stone readers already knew but tomorrow's NY Times obit finally outs Merv. "But he was also dogged by sex scandals and insinuations that he was gay. In 1991, he was sued by Denny Terrio, the host of 'Dance Fever,' another show Mr. Griffin created, for sexual harassment. The same year, Brent Plott, a longtime employee who worked as a bodyguard, horse trainer and driver, filed a $200 million palimony lawsuit. Mr. Griffin characterized both lawsuits as extortion; ultimately, both suits were dismissed.
Mr. Griffin consistently evaded answering questions about his sexuality, often joking about it."
