For Progressives-- Wins, Losses And The Road Forward

Start calling her Congresswoman Bush

Last night there were two gigantic progressive wins-- both in Missouri. After a decade of dogged and vicious Republican opposition in the state legislature and from the governors, the state's voters passed a Constitutional Amendment to give health care to nearly a quarter million of the state's poorest citizens (people earning less than $18,000 annually) through Obamacare Medicaid expansion, making Missouri the 38th state to adopt it. Thanks to massive popularity in St Louis, the amendment passed 52-48% statewide, with right-wing governor Mike Parson continuing to lie that the state can't afford it-- even after a credible study from the Institute for Public Health at Washington University, found that providing health care for more people would actually save the state money. Since the federal government will match 90% of the costs of the newly eligible-- down from 100% had Missouri decided to be part of the program from the beginning-- that state will save about half a billion dollars a year in federal income taxes because residents pay into the system that funds Medicaid expansion without getting the benefits of that expansion."

The other huge progressive win in Missouri was Cori Bush defeating corrupt Congressman Lacy Clay in their St. Louis congressional race:

Cori, a nurse, a Black Lives Matter activist and Berniecrat was great news on a night when other movement activists didn't around the country didn't fare as well. Clay raised $740,525 compared to Bush's $562,309 but a massive $150,000 I.E. on her behalf from Justice Democrats evened the playing field.

The biggest disappointment was that Blue Dog and "ex"-Republican Tom O'Halleran in Arizona managed to avoid being ousted by another Berniecrat and movement activist, Eva Putzova, who won the districts's biggest and bluest county, Coconino, but was dragged down by the more conservative counties that backed O'Halleran. With 94% of the votes counted, he won 34,095 (58.65%) to 24,037 (41.35%). This was Cori's second try against Clay-- and Eva's first try against O'Halleran. I expect she will try again.

In Michigan, Rashida Tlaib handily beat back a challenge from corporate shill Brenda Jones, with a 2-1 landslide. And in the southwest district, with all precincts now counted, voters have chosen the progressive state legislator, Jon Hoadley over garden variety Democrat Jen Richardson-- 52.3% to 47.7%. Hoadley is in a good position to beat Trump enabler Fred Upton in November.

In Washington state, progressives lost their congressional runs against right-of-center incumbents Rick Larsen and Derek Kilmer and in WA-10, conservative Marilyn Strickland seems to be beating progressive Beth Doglio for first place for the seat opening up after Denny Heck's retirement. It looks like they will square off in November-- with a sharp contrast between a progressive and a conservative.

This morning, Roots Action, led by Berniecrat Norman Solomon, announced that his group has launched a grassroots campaign aimed at "swing voters on the left," to persuade Bernie supporters and other progressives in swing states to "Vote Trump Out-- and Then Challenge Biden."

The Vote Trump Out swing-states initiative will include a highly-targeted social-media program and other digital outreach, utilizing messages from national and state progressive luminaries-- people who are widely respected on the left in ways that establishment Democrats are not. The campaign will urge progressives in the dozen battleground states to vote for Joe Biden rather than sit out the election or cast a third-party protest vote. Directed heavily toward young people, the effort will be entirely independent of-- and often in opposition to-- corporate Democratic leaders.

The RootsAction campaign has assembled a group of national endorsers who are likely to be persuasive to progressives on the fence about voting for Biden. They include: Ady Barkan, Medea Benjamin, Leslie Cagan, Noam Chomsky, Marjorie Cohn, RoseAnn DeMoro, Barbara Ehrenreich, Daniel Ellsberg, Bill Fletcher Jr., Jim Hightower, Rep. Ro Khanna, Jamie Margolin, Annabel Park, Linda Sarsour, Winnie Wong and James Zogby.

The #VoteTrumpOut campaign will assert that-- while President Trump is unfailingly immune to progressive persuasion or protest-- the fight for a full progressive agenda (ranging from major climate initiatives and anti-racism to universal healthcare, free public college and taxing the wealthy) would have the potential to win some victories with Biden in the White House.

The campaign’s mission statement declares: "We are not going to minimize our disagreements with Joe Biden. But we’re also clear-eyed about where things stand: supporting the Democratic nominee in swing states is the only way to defeat Trump... If Biden wins, we’ll be at his door on day one, demanding the kinds of structural reforms that advance racial, economic and environmental justice."

Renowned linguist, author and political activist Noam Chomsky contributed this comment to the initiative: "I live in the swing state of Arizona, and I’d vote for a lamp post to get Trump out." Chomsky is featured in a campaign-launch video [above].

"Our organization fought fiercely in the primaries for Bernie and against Biden," said RootsAction.org cofounders Jeff Cohen and Norman Solomon. "But the general election is far less about Biden than it is about Trump-- the most dangerous president in modern U.S. history, who opposes virtually every policy and principle that progressives are fighting for."

   

Blue America Endorsement-- Cori Bush For Congress (MO-01)

Missouri's first congressional district-- the entire city of St. Louis and the mostly black northern suburbs-- Ferguson, Florissant, Black Jack, Spanish Lake-- is the 385th poorest congressional district of 435 nationally and the poorest in the state. It borders the second congressional district which is one of the richest in the country. MO-01 is a minority majority district (42.9% white) and MO-02 is 88.1% white. The district lines have been carefully drawn to pack as many likely Democratic voters into a single district and keep the second CD as Republican as possible. MO-01 has a PVI of D+28 and next door the PVI is R+8. MO-01 is poorly represented by William "Lacy" Clay (D), who provides a clear reminder of why progressive voters need to organize around fresh, new voices who will upend Capitol Hill, stiff-arm corporate interests, and take back the Democratic Party from the corporate special interests. A ten-term incumbent he long ago sold out to big banks, payday lenders and other financial parasites that depend on Washington to look the other way while they continue preying on poor and underrepresented communities.

Despite representing a district with high concentrations of poverty-- half of the public school students receive free and reduced lunch-- Clay has used his position in Washington to carry water for industries like rent-to-own stores, which target minorities and charge usurious interest rates for basic household appliances, such as refrigerators, ovens and washing machines. Clay actually told a room full of rent-to-own operators assembled at an industry convention, "I’ll always do my best to protect what really matters to you."

In the words of respected investigative journalists Zach Carter and Ryan Grim, Clay is one of a handful of Congressional Black Caucus members who have "pushed for a host of seemingly arcane measures that would undermine Dodd-Frank’s rules on financial derivatives, the complex contracts at the heart of the 2008 meltdown."

Don't expect to see the DCCC or EMILY's List endorse Cori Bush. She's way too real and way too progressive for them. Expect instead to see groups like Matriarch.org and Justice Democrats. And, as of today, Blue America has endorsed her campaign. Cori intends to finish what she began last cycle, when she took on Clay. Progressive icon Ro Khanna endorsed her last cycle and it's worth listening to what he had to say about her:

St Louis Needs Real Representation

What comes to mind when you think of St. Louis? Maybe you've seen headlines declaring that our crime rates make us the "most dangerous city" in America. Perhaps you watched protests ignite in Ferguson and spread around the world after 18 year-old Michael Brown Jr. was killed. You might know us for our Arch, a landmark intended to signal success and prosperity for those who settled St. Louis.

  For me, I think of all the mothers I've held in my arms, too many to count, as we grieve for the children they lost to gun violence. I think of soul food cooked in small, unassuming neighborhood joints that are better than any Michelin star restaurant you could find. I think about my years as a nurse, caring for the most vulnerable people in our communities, who are suffering from preventable ailments. I think of our history here as a city of protest, of resistance, of resilience; and the legacy we continued every day that we took to the streets in Ferguson.

The people of St. Louis are fighters. I, too, am a fighter.

But for too long, we've been fighting and getting nowhere fast because the one person we've entrusted with our welfare refuses to take action. Here in Missouri-01, Lacy Clay & his father before him have together held our seat in Congress for over half a century. Rep. Clay assures us that everything is fine, while people in my community are forced to make decisions every day that can mean the difference between making ends meet and living in poverty, hunger, or unhoused on our streets.

I started my campaign for Congress as a mother, nurse, activist, and proud St. Louisan, and that's exactly how I will lead in Congress. The people of St. Louis need a Congress-person and deserve a representative, not a career politician. Because I've faced homelessness and being uninsured; because I am a strong single mother who worked for years as a low-wage worker; because I've survived violence; because I come from a proud military family; I could never forget who I was and how I lived, before taking office. Voters across America know that we are facing a turning point in the battle for the soul of our nation. We have nothing to lose, and everything at stake, and that is why we must be vocal, authentic, and unapologetic in our leadership. For St. Louis, and for America, it's the only way.

I see it as my moral obligation to run for Congress and fight for a better future we all need. But, it is also a serious responsibility with real-life impacts. We deserve better than a representative who can't be pinned down. There should be no room for doubt-- we must know where our leaders stand. The plan I've laid out above is just a taste of what we can build together, and I hope to see you join us.

The Girl With No Voice Became The Spokesperson For The People of Missouri

For Missouri state Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who is running for Congress in Missouri’s 1st congressional district, education is a top priority. In this district, the high poverty areas have the worst school systems, the worst outcomes for students, and the largest number of unaccredited schools. This is an issue near and dear to the senator; it’s personal. As eloquent and articulate as she is now, she was born with a speech impediment. It was 8 years of speech therapy and public school that helped her overcome this disability.

Boy, did she overcome it. Maria Chappelle-Nadal is the filibuster rock star we’ve all been hearing  about in the news lately. She led a historic 39 hour filibuster in the Missouri Senate to keep the Republicans from voting on a ballot initiative that would allow businesses to discriminate against the LGBT community.

I listened to some of it live at 3 AM one morning and am so honored to have been present for that piece of history. The Republicans stopped the filibuster by breaking the rules. Senator Chappelle-Nadal was distressed by this move.

"We follow the US Senate rules and by taking the floor away they broke the rules. The only place where I am equal is in that chamber-- because of the rules. Outside that room I am black, I am a woman, I am invisible. These rules mean a lot to me."

The Senate Democrats (all 8 of them) are doing their part to punish the Republicans for breaking the rules, and they’re doing it by following the rules. Recently a Republican Senator rose in the chamber with the standard “Mr. President, asking for unanimous consent, I'd like to introduce a group of 4th graders." Maria Chappelle-Nadal quickly responded "I object."

Now that might sound a little mean, who could object to 4th graders being introduced? The Senator turned to talk to them, saying:

"You know how when someone takes something away from you that they’re not supposed to?  Well, the Senator who wants to introduce you did that, and now his Party’s in trouble. They are being punished by being in time out."

The kids cheered and clapped and Senator Chappelle-Nadal noted that rather than just standing and being introduced, these 4th graders were learning about Democracy. I’m betting they remember that for the rest of their lives.

For many, the Senator was the face of Ferguson, responding to press calls for interviews. She said Michael Brown’s shooting was so shocking, partly because it was the first widely publicized shooting in 10 years. She was out in the streets being tear gassed for hours along with the other members of a stunned community.

Maria said she was changed by that. She was compassionate before but something shifted. She says service to others is different, listening to all became even more important and meaningful to her. The Senator wondered how her outspokenness on Ferguson would affect the white voters in her district. She was surprised when she started getting letters and calls from this constituency, telling her that the same silence that allowed Michael Brown’s death to happen is the same silence that is allowing the radioactive waste problems to happen.

Maria does a lot of work in her community, one thing you can be sure about her is when she goes to Congress to represent the 1st, she’ll be coming home. She has meet-ups and town halls 4 to 5 times a week.

It was the Missouri Attorney General's report on radioactive waste that made her want to run for Congress. She asked herself “Knowing what you know now, how could you live with yourself if you didn't run?"

She is passionate about getting Federal help to clean up the crisis of radioactive waste which is in a way a form of "environmental poverty," she says. Guess where the landfill sites are? Did you guess black neighborhoods? Ding, ding, ding! Correct. Though they are all over the place. Recently there was a proposal to build the new football stadium on top of one of these sites. The team already practices on top of one of these waste sites.

At her town hall meet-ups people bring the Senator pictures of their kids born with no eyes and born with two sets of teeth. At a meet-up last week, a woman drew the Senator a map of her neighborhood; 3 or 4 blocks and put stars on all the houses where someone had cancer. This is called a "cancer cluster." I call it a cancer clusterfuck.

This crisis in Missouri isn’t new, it's been going on for about 70 years, for 40 years it's been known widely how dangerous it is. I'm not sure the Senator Maris Chappelle-Nadal is even 40 years old, but she knows about it now and it seems as if she’s not even going to sleep until something is done about it.

She works actively supporting community groups trying to clean of the area and make it safe. She even resigned her seat on the University City School Board in order to focus on the situation at the Bridgeton landfills.

She throws statistics out rapid fire on people sick from drinking tap water; brain tumours, breast cancer and testicular cancer. The demolition of public housing build on top of the dumps being torn down and the toxic waste moved to the Bridgeton Landfill. She tells me that the landfill is the hotspot but it’s the end of the line. Coldwater Creek is the beginning.

She’s way over my head with her scientific knowledge of the situation so I go to a source who is an expert, having decades of experience in nuclear accident clean up. My expert said this:

"The list of isotopes present in the landfill soil is comprised of all actinides, which are notably nasty alpha-emitters. Most also emit beta and/or high energy gamma when they decay, but if one of these atoms gets into your lungs or throat/stomach before decaying it's that slow and heavy alpha that will blast entire cells to smithereens. The uranium isotope profile confirms that this is enrichment waste that by rights ought to be in carefully packed 55 gallon drums in the deepest underground salt chamber at Carlsbad instead of in a municipal garbage dump."

I bolded the parts that I clearly understood. Luckily for those in Missouri, Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal understands it and is doing her best to find a solution to the problem.

The filibuster last week wasn’t her first; she once filibustered for over 10 hours all by herself. This spirit, commitment to Justice and this tenaciousness is just what we need in the U.S. House. I’m looking forward to listening to her voice there as she rouses some of the sleepy heads in our "do nothing" Congress and leads them into action. Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal is on a crusade. She needs all of us to support her, which we can do at either on of the thermometers below:

Even without as stellar as candidate as state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, Blue America would be eager to see Clay move on to a predestined job on K Street. An eight-term incumbent he long ago sold out to big banks, payday lenders and other financial parasites that depend on Washington to look the other way while they continue preying on poor and underrepresented communities.

Like the vast majority of the members of the House Financial Services Committee, a bipartisan cesspool of jaw-dropping and grotesque corruption, Clay is, simply put, on the take. The banksters pay off the committee members to give Wall Street a nearly free hand in ripping off the country.

Clay inherited the seat from his father, Bill Clay, a widely respected St. Louis civil rights leader whose legacy the younger Clay has failed to live up to. The district includes Ferguson, where-- in addition to police brutality-- issues of economic inequality and institutional racism caused thousands of protestors, of all backgrounds and ethnicities, to march in the streets. (Not Clay, however, who did not emerge on the scene until long after it was apparent Ferguson would remain a focal point in the national conservation about race and social justice. Even then, Clay participated from a safe distance.)

He has used his perch as ranking member of a key Financial Services subcommittee-- the one that oversees the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau-- to undermine the watchdog role envisioned by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren when she helped create the agency. No, he's not from the Warren wing of the party; he's from the pay-to-play wing. (Clay’s position on the subcommittee is yet another example of his career benefitting from nepotism-- his cousin, Rep. Maxine Waters, is ranking member for the full committee.)

In the words of respected investigative journalists Zach Carter and Ryan Grim, Clay is one of a handful of Congressional Black Caucus members who have "pushed for a host of seemingly arcane measures that would undermine Dodd-Frank’s rules on financial derivatives, the complex contracts at the heart of the 2008 meltdown."

Clay co-sponsored a measure (H.R. 1077) that would have allowed banks to put back sneaky hidden fees into their loans-- a pitfall that affected many low-income and minority borrowers. When conservative Republicans started signing onto the measure as well, Clay realized how bad the legislation was and actually withdrew his name from the list of co-sponsors, a real Patrick Murphy move. and, like Murphy, he supported legislation that would allow banks to resume trading in "credit default swaps," and pressed financial regulators to allow banks to resume trading risky "collateralized debt obligations," another toxic asset that hastened the financial meltdown.

Clay has held multiple fundraisers at the Washington offices of the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals-- the industry trade group representing bill collectors-- even though a ProPublica investigation showed that bill collectors were disproportionately black consumers in his own district.

Clay’s record on reproductive rights is nothing to write home about either-- not if you're a Democrat. He voted opposite 145 of his Democratic colleagues in supporting the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, a bill making it harder for women in states with restrictive laws to get the healthcare they need-- and are legally entitled to under the Constitution. His ProgressivePunch crucial vote lifetime score is a B... and in one of the safest blue districts in the country, a district where the residents deserve a congressman with an A-- and a congressman who shows up to work; Clay has missed 700 roll call votes. Who does, he think he is, Marco Rubio? His absenteeism is 3 times worse than the average congressman. So we decided to endorse the progressive Democrat running for the seat Clay occupies, Maria Chappelle-Nadal. I asked her if she would write a guest post about the race. She said she was really tied up working on a project that is crucial for her constituents. But said she was going to be on a plane and if she could write about that project, she'd do it. Radioactive Waste Contamination in St. Louis

Radioactive waste is a major problem in St. Louis. Usually when people reference St. Louis, one envisions the Arch, our favorite pizza spot-- Imo’s or #Ferguson. For many of us, Ferguson was the tipping point that caused residents to take a step back and reflect on the type of environment in which we chose to live. For many of us, our lives were changed for the better.

I was one of those people whose life was enriched due to the challenges we faced in 2014, that is, until I found out uranium was literally underneath thousands of homes, in creeks and tributaries and in landfills. In 2012, I decided to learn more about radioactive waste in north St. Louis County. My friend and neighbor told me about the issue a couple of years beforehand, but I did not fully grasp the scope of environmental and health ramifications of radioactive waste like I do today. I toured three areas in the newly reapportioned senate district that had radioactive waste-- specifically 48,000 tons of radioactive waste (uranium and thorium) that was illegally dumped into an unlined municipal dump. I discovered that one of the American Water intake sites-- that is responsible for supplying drinking water for all north St. Louis County residents-- is only 8 river miles downstream. During this time of study, our local NPR station had a piece on the high rates of cancer among residents in north St. Louis County. I did not know if the two issues were connected then, but certainly you can understand why it was important study, metabolize and articulate the situation. Eventually, I took an even closer look to see for myself what the areas look like and try to address the questions that lingered. Just before I took the 2012 tour, I held several meetings with environmental advocates in St. Louis and shortly thereafter, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch had a front page article dealing with the EPA and radioactive waste in the same area. Obviously, the stars were aligned.



While I am disappointed with the original decision of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to leave radioactive waste at the site, I was hopeful the EPA would change its mind as a part of its process to reevaluate its longstanding decision. What we are talking about is radioactive waste in our back yards and in some cases, front yards. At the time, there were news reports regarding the EPA’s plan to leave Cold War-era (Manhattan Project) radioactive waste at the West Lake landfill, one of many sites across the St. Louis area that was contaminated with Mallinckrodt Chemical Company’s processed uranium.

In 2008, the EPA announced it would leave the contaminated soil and try to contain the damage by covering the site with debris and monitoring the groundwater around the perimeter; however, this controversial decision was met with backlash from environmentalists. Congressman Russ Carnahan and a few local government entities urged federal officials to reconsider their plan. Bridgeton, Florissant, the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County all passed resolutions against the plan. I discovered Lambert International Airport, which is operated by St. Louis City, opposed the plan to remove radioactive waste because they feared birds would interrupt air traffic. But I had also discovered ways this radioactive waste removal could be contained without disruption to air traffic.

In 2011, the EPA released the findings from a supplemental study that analyzed alternative cleanup options, citing a $450 million cost to haul the waste away compared to $41 million to cap the site. The report also said that digging up the waste and hauling it away could potentially be more dangerous to the community than simply leaving the waste in the ground, where numerous underground water sources could be contaminated. While these concerns are valid, there is simply no way to predict floods, tornados or earthquakes that could irreversibly spread radioactive waste into the Missouri River and into thousands of peoples’ drinking water.

There are several thoughts that resulted from our initial discovery. What puzzles me the most is the fact there are a few sites around St. Louis where the same radioactive waste from Mallinckrodt was being cleaned up, but not at West Lake.

One of the sites I visited under remediation is near Lambert Airport along Coldwater Creek. What I saw were two above ground water treatment structures and a lined pond that contain radioactive water. I was greatly concerned because there was a plastic tube that went from these above ground structures, over the bridge where the creek is and finally into the ground. We are unaware of whether radioactive waste is going into the ground or whether there was liquid that left the ground and went into the nuclear waste. This is still a concern. As recent as the early 2000’s people-- adults and children-- played in Coldwater Creek for recreational purposes. Then, I was unaware if there was a relationship to the disproportionate rates of cancer in north St. Louis County, but it was again one of those red flags that needed to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Next, I visited the West Lake Superfund site in Bridgeton where 48,000 tons of radioactive waste was illegally dumped. Federal regulators have put up a fence around the parameter of the landfill with neon warning signs. Someone who is unfamiliar with this issue would naturally think the property outside of the area is okay. But from what I learned and estimated, that is not the right conclusion. In fact, we should all be concerned about radioactive contaminated groundwater getting into the soil and reservoirs not within the landfill and are headed into in the direction of the Missouri River and into other areas, such as the American Water intake site, residential areas and the businesses in the area.

In 1988, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a report on West Lake that identified lower-level contamination already exists. (In lay terms, low-level radiation is equivalent to an MRI 24 hours a day.) We discovered that samples as far as 100 yards away contain radioactive waste. At the time, a senator from St. Charles said that his county purchases water from St. Louis County. There were simply too many “what-if’s.”

The cleanup of these sites I am referring to were transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers under a program created in the mid-1970s to help cleanup sites tied to the government’s atomic energy and weapons programs. The reason this is important is because the Missouri Department of Natural Resources did not oversee landfills until the early 1970’s. Meaning the time between the late 1940’s and the 1970’s, we don’t actually know where haulers dumped this radioactive waste.

After my initial findings in 2012, I filed SCR 11 and SCR 23 in 2013 and 2014.  I sponsored these resolutions to encourage Congress to transfer authority for the remediation of the West Lake Landfill radioactive wastes from the EPA to the U.S. Corps of Engineers' Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). In November of 2015, U.S. Senators Blunt and McCaskill filed Senate Bill No. S.2306. While it took three years for our congressional delegation to move on this very critical issue, I am grateful that Bridgeton and Maryland Heights residents finally get some resolution and attention from Congress.

#Ferguson taught me silence is violence. Unfortunately, for decades, there were too many people who were willing to remain silent as radioactive waste migrated very easily, due to the way it was processed, into parks and tributaries where children play.

I learned there is a direct correlation between the radioactive waste and the cancer and autoimmune diseases in north St. Louis County. The stories I hear are very hard to carry without having your heart sink. This is one of the reasons why I have chosen to dedicate most of my time to raising awareness about such an important issue.

There is another concern all should be aware of-- the numerous retired landfills where people live and raise families atop. Again, families are getting sick and wondering why this is happening. Again, it is not their fault, but the burden of our federal government. There is a former landfill in north St. Louis City near where my father lived. There are retired landfills in unincorporated areas of St. Louis County and well-established municipalities too.

The narratives I have heard include a 16-year-old who died due to testicular cancer. He lived above an out-of-use landfill that has never been tested with gamma, alpha or beta monitoring devices. Across the street from him, a 19-year old girl died of a brain tumor. There are a number of people that have gotten and died from brain tumors and brain cancer or have become victim to a number of autoimmune diseases. Appendix cancer typically occurs in 1 person out of every million. In north St. Louis County within a population of 120,000 people, there are over 50 cases. The St. Louis County Board of Elections is directly above a landfill. Nine former employees have died of cancer in 10 years.

Additionally, there are women who have had multiple miscarriages or are altogether unable to have children. Hundreds of people have had multiple cancers, some who have had breast cancer multiple times. The stories of St. Louis residents that have lost their entire livelihoods through no fault of their own is overwhelmingly tragic.

St. Louis has a severe healthcare crisis that has existed for a very long time.  And, there are many who chose to stay silent anyway.

In the Missouri Legislature, there are pending attempts to undermine the work of Attorney General Chris Koster and the efforts of several private citizens who are trying to raise awareness about the radioactive waste that exists in the entire St. Louis region.

As long as people are getting sick and dying, I will be fighting this terrible legislation and also forcing the federal government to take responsibility for what they allowed to occur in my hometown of St. Louis.
