Carole Cadwalladr Kicks Facebook's Ass-- The Petri Dish For Trump
>
In a Ted Talk this month in the Silicon Valley, U.K. journalist Carole Cadwalladr got into the details of how the Russians managed make sure Britain passed Brexit. As someone who has never looked at a Facebook ad in my life and as someone who thinks Facebook is primarily for pre-teens, it's almost unimaginable that a barrage of misleading Facebook ads targeted at vulnerable Brexit swing voters could have swung an election-- be it for Brexit or in the Trump/Clinton debacle. Cadwalladr called out those who she referred to as the "gods of Silicon Valley"-- the ones at Facebook in particular and by name-- for being on the wrong side of history and asked, ominously, "Are free and fair elections a thing of the past?"
She thinks so. I guess we'll find out next year, won't we? Please don't miss watching the Ted Talk; she's really excellent and enlightening. I mean what do you have better to do? Watch Game of Thrones or something?

LOL. The Russians sure are powerful. Maybe the Dems ought to nominate Putin for president.
no. the democraps will nominate biden. and if the Nazis nominated putin, he'd win.
because the democraps are shit and can't get enough people excited about their corrupt, feckless, racist lying pos candidates.
facebook is only doing very quickly what maleducation and social decay has done slowly over the past 4 decades. It's making all of us narcissistic morons.
Is the human society's vector invariably downward? Is technology just making the slope more steep? Could facebook/twitter/instagram force people to be stupid.. or are people just stupid looking for an excuse?
How many elections in the world have NOT hinged on colossally stupid voters in the past 20 years? any?
Begs the question. If democracy means voters determine their own government, why are there never any candidates that are not shit that end up running... for anything. Why can't voters ever demand that their candidates actually not suck? They never do! why?
Carole Cadwalladr told me more about how facebook could be used to subvert democracy than the millions of words lofted about by people who know nothing about their stories and reports. She went out into the field to research her story. How many of our "journalists" do the same?
This is why I have no faith in the American corporate media. They are paid to mislead, not inform.
I'm reminded of the "guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people".
sidelight: every year a few people are killed by their dogs who knock over a loaded firearm.
facebook doesn't make people stupid and evil... people are already stupid and evil... facebook just figured out how to make billions in profit from their stupidity and evil.
(and people are far too stupid and evil to ever figure out that facebook et al actually do them far more harm than good)
and, like guns, some clever people will use facebook to destroy the lives of those they hate.
If Facebook had anything to do with Brexit and the USA 2016 presidential election, it was that it was a database from which Cambridge Analytica could harvest information, process it, and then regurgitate it back onto FB to target groups to influence their votes in each of the two elections above.
(Note: following IS HYPOTHETICAL) >>>
IF, IF, IF RTPĀ© (i.e Rootin' Tootin' Putin) had wanted to meddle in the already terminally useless, corrupt (and, frankly, abusive to Amertican voters) US presidential election, he likely would have used the Cambridge Analytica strategy.
But, of course, having the US elections, manipulated by US billionaires who hire, for Trump, corporations in an ally's country is completely acceptable, and Saint Robert "what, ME, exonerate?" Mueller apparently couldn't care less. (Anyone found reference to Cambridge Analytica in the gospel according to Saint Robert?)
OMFC, really, RTP did Brexit, too?!? What a Russki cad! Maybe the UK parliament will appoint Saint Robert "to get to the bottom of" THAT.
