Everything Conservatives Do To Try To Discredit AOC Increases The Intensity And Scope Of Her Popularity

>

Can your member of Congress dance? He or she may have to learn after Republicans decided to make dancing an issue. The video above... she was in college. Don't you LOVE it? The whole country does... except some angry, plodding Republicans. They are so screwed up. HuffPo reported that "The video originated from a right-wing Twitter account that was trying to peddle an allegedly scandalous video of Ocasio-Cortez dancing. It was watermarked as a LiveLeak video purportedly filmed while the congresswoman was in 'high school.'"

“Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is,” tweeted AnonymousQ1776, an account with apparent ties to QAnon conspiracy theorists. “High School video of ‘Sandy’ Ocasio-Cortez.”

The clip is actually from a longer video filmed while Ocasio-Cortez was a student at Boston University-- not while she was in high school, as the original poster suggested.

It was filmed for the university’s Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground, Eric Calvin Baker, a 2013 Boston University alum who helped make the video, told HuffPost.

Baker, who is currently in graduate school at Syracuse University, said it was filmed when viral dance videos were “a fad” in 2010. Ocasio-Cortez may have been “20 or 21,” he said.

“We were student ambassadors at the Howard Thurman Center, and Sandy [Ocasio-Cortez’ nickname] was like the face of the center,” Baker said. “So Julian Jensen [also in the video] and I cast her and our other friends.”

This video is a Lisztomania Brat Pack Mashup, a homage to an earlier viral video that mashed up the 2009 song by the band Phoenix with dance scenes from the 1985 cult classic The Breakfast Club. Phoenix played a show in Boston later that semester.

In 2010, the then-assistant director of the center told the university’s media website, BU Today, that the the video showcased the “vibrancy and spirit of our community.”

Many on Twitter seemed to find the short clip endearing and relatable, rather than controversial.
1.26 million views in a couple of hours on Facebook. 11 seconds! She's headed right towards being the second woman Speaker!

Morning Joe weighed in too, with a serious thought-piece on the most important young political leader-- rapidly becoming an icon-- in America (video below). Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez really should thank the Republican Party for all the free publicity they've been giving her.

We ran this little poll on Twitter before the GOP "leaked" the dance scandal video, asking why Ocasio-Cortez is the most popular member of Congress on her first day. Remember when we remarked how her tweeter feed had 1.62 million followers? That was on Christmas Eve. As I write this post she's up to 1.82 million 1.96 million followers-- an increase of 200,000 350,000. That's 350,000 more men and women who she will be able to reach everyday with her ideas. Anyway, here's the poll we did Thursday:

Had the Republican Party not tried their crazy dance stunt to embarrass Alexandria Ocasio, would the NY Daily News have even mentioned her newest policy initiative, let alone plastered it on the cover of the biggest daily in America? I don't think so. The Republican Party is making AOC the "peoples' Representative" and we should all thank Kevin McCarthy and Yertle the Turtle for that. She is probably better known than 90% of the members of the House already-- and was just sworn in 3 days ago. Please keep attacking her, Republicans. Funny how they don't ever bother attacking any of the New Dem and Blue Dog freshmen like Abigail Spanberger (VA), Jeff Van Drew (NJ) and Mikie Sherrill (NJ). They know from which direction the cohesive counters for their reactionary politics is coming.

I like Alexandria she's a fresh new face for the party which desperately needs a boost for something & Rashid Talib is great also Nancy Pelosi however she's yesteryear's news not a big fan.

Nancy may well be yesteryear's news, but she remains the stranglehold on tomorrow's news escaping corporate control. Nancy isn't about to allow AOC to do her job.

I'll need to see how she votes to get a clear picture. She did vote for Pelosi as speaker but also voted correctly on paygo/rules.

not that the latter is relevant since it was guaranteed to pass so a select few were probably allowed to vote against it.

bottom line, however, is what 4:58 says. Pelosi alone dictates democrap house agenda and committees. AOC couldn't "do" shit even if she wanted to. Pelosi's only challenge is to assuage AOC just enough to keep her from rhetorically exposing Pelosi's absolute corruption and political cowardice.

AOC may even be able to "propose" lege. Won't be able to pass anything useful, but she might be pandered to a little.

If AOC isn't talking about the democrap PARTY perfidy within a couple of weeks, we'll know she's been "controlled" (read: bought).
