Dayna Steele Rocks The 36th
>
You know how gung-ho we've been about the Houston-area race pitting progressive Dayna Steele against right-wing ideologue Brian Babin. He's a Freedom Caucus extremist. Dayna's someone who wants to make life better from people in southeast Texas. Big difference. Anyway, Imagination Worldwide has been working on a document-series for Amazon-Prime and Google Play that will premiere September 4, with a new episode airing every 2 weeks until election day. Above you can watch the trailer for the first episode. As you can see, it features appearances by Joan Jett, David Crosby, Gary Pihl from the band Boston, Melissa Etheridge and... people who live in TX-36.
Proud Pony International and Imagination Worldwide have been following Dayna's campaign around the sprawling 36th district since the day she announced. Speaking of "36," it was 36 years ago that Dayna Steele signed on to Rock 101 KLOL, Texas' premiere rock station, for the first time. It's because of KLOL that I first met her because as president of a record company we needed people to hear our artists' songs so we could sell them Houston and so they could go there and play concerts. She was in a male-dominated-- some would say "macho"-- industry, but she kicked ass and rose to the top. For many people, the first time they ever heard, for example, a great song by Eric Clapton, one of our artists, is was because Dayna was playing it for them. I spoke with producer Michelle Mower, who is also CEO of Imagination Worldwide. She told me has been totally excited to work with Dayna. "What a dynamic human being! Texas would be lucky to have her as part of the delegation representing the state in the House. Just as with the fight to end fascism in Europe, we must attack tyranny in America from many fronts. We hope our docu-series will open eyes and hearts so that those who are being swayed by fear and hatred will see the truth-- we are all Americans who love this country. We are stronger when we respect each other’s differences. Dayna is a perfect example of this, America."
Now she's in another rough and tumble macho industry-- Texas electoral politics. And-- you guessed it-- she's kicking ass again, standing right up and talking to people who may have never spoken about politics with a Democrat before, about Medicare-For-All, a $15-an-hour minimum wage, gun violence prevention, the right to choice for women, passing a clean DREAM Act and not building Trump's ridiculous wall, equality for the LGBTQ community, and support for the EPA. The woman who introduced them to The Who and Pink Floyd for the first time... at least they're going to listen to what she has to say, whether they agree or disagree.
